Bio

Justyn Dow is a rising talent in the current sea of independent musicians. His edgy yet refreshing sound combines elements of Rock, Blues, Americana and Hip-Hop. With the release of his new EP, ‘Consumed’, Dow continues to pursue a direction that stretches the boundaries of the “rock/pop” genre.

The events of Dow’s career to this point tell a story of fast and furious growth for somebody who did not decide to pursue a professional career in music until after he graduated from college. Like many new graduates, he found a small number of job opportunities and none that interested him. At that moment, he made the bold decision to pursue a career in music. “I figured if I'm going to struggle financially, it might as well be doing something that I love.” Dow learned a lot about himself in the time immediately after that decision: “I didn't really grasp my passion for creating music until I submerged myself in it. Since I made that choice, I've been all-in.”

Once he started writing and performing whole-heartedly, Dow soon discovered a fresh and distinctive sound. The core of his originality stems from a healthy dose of blues and rock n’ roll as a child. As he grew, so did his taste in music. From early influences like John Mayer and Dave Matthews the list has continued to grow. Today there is consistent variety in Dow’s listening choices. As he explains, “One day it’s The Black Keys, the next it’s Lil’ Wayne.” He remains especially keen to artists who take risks and leave the comforts that brought them success. Dow brings that same experimental approach to his own work.

All of this built up to Dow’s most recent project. He travelled to Nashville, TN and worked with producer Neilson Hubbard. The diverse mix of songs is a departure from his previous work in its resistance to categorization. “I turn on popular radio and much of what I hear sounds the same: over-produced and lacking substance. I wanted to step outside the box and create a project that kept the listener off balance from track to track, engaged and entertained.”
