mellow synth pop songs for sea mammals

Biography

Juviley's "Our Choices Rhyme" may very well be the first album which is released uniquely as a computer game.

The idea behind the release is to allow listeners to engage with the music and create a new way to experience it. People are welcome to play the game which features the music from the different songs from the album. Every song in the game has different graphics that were created specifically for it. As the player scores more points, they get to download songs from the album, custom made animated gifs, and hidden notes.

The project is a true DIY collaborative effort, involving four secret agents. All of the recording, designing, programming, and ice cream consuming was done by the Brooklyn based group.

Our Choices Rhyme features five songs. The poetic qualities of the songs are contrasted and enhanced by the simple synth pop arrangements. Musically, it is Juviley's most accesible release yet.

The project was led by Or Zubalsky (AKA Juviley) and Huong Ngo, and was realized with the kind help of Kolbrún Þóra Löve and Oren Lahav.

Fallen Leaves

Written By: Or Zubalsky

Sweeping sounds from the down the lane
Fallen leaves are around again
See her now
Her hair has grown
Fairy smile
Makes you

Lose yourself and watch the ground
Lost yourself and turn around
Just a glimpse before you're gone

In my dream I have a tree
Falling leaves are raining over me
In my dream you come to me
Sing to me

We all love a pleasant day
Walk beside her for miles away
We all love a pleasant day
And she makes us

Lose ourselves and watch her smile
Lose ourselves and look up high
Watch the seasons passing by

Sweeping sounds from the down the lane
Fallen leaves are around again

Go Try Again

Written By: Or Zubalsky

Lift up your head don't worry about it
Go try again
Never in life do answers come on first attempt

Gather the pieces one by one
Don't lose your nerve
Lift up your head don't worry about it
Go try again
Go try again

People pass you by
Asking you why you act so shy
Take your leaves in your hand
Throw them high and watch them fly

It Comes to This

Written By: Or Zubalsky

And it comes to this
An end for a start
The growing apart that begins
And you know it's wrong
Letting it go
Quietly
Cry for it

Your sweet sweet home is gone
And that reckless face you wore won't fool me
I see your shaking knees
It's hope that caused the spark
Now the burning fuse is hot
Watch the flame
Closing in

And it comes to this
And it comes to this
An end for a start
An end for a start
And it comes to this
An end for a start
The growing apart that begins
And you know it's wrong
Letting it go
Quietly
Cry for it
Carry on
But cry for me

Two Sail Wonder

Written By: Or Zubalsky

Easily drifts toward the show
My two sail wonder
Built from a woodblock envelope and a cork
Send it to sea it will return
With tales of magic
Stories of wild life and far lands
Sail now
Now that the sea is calming down we can set out

I cheer up when I think of us smiling at the moon
I cheer up when the stars lit up above and below too
What a thing to do

Soon we'll arrive to hazy port
The skies are turning
We're on the brink of having more
Stories to be told

I cheer up when we find ourselves another thing to do
I cheer up when we finish something grand then start anew
What a lucky two

I cheer up when I think of us smiling at the moon
I cheer up when we finish something grand then start anew
I cheer up when the stars lit up above and below too

Easily drifts toward the shore
My two sail wonder

And Then We Spiral

Written By: Or Zubalsky

I’ve been carrying a clutter
Made of disarrayed thoughts
And if you feel lighter
Well, they’re all yours

My back it is aching
From the weight that I hold
And your newest conclusion
Just adds more

We are motionless and then we spiral
I am so tired
It is pulling us, it is time
Make up your mind

I hope when it’s over
When you know what you want
I hope I believe you
I sure hope that

Till now I got by
But it can’t last a long while
I’ve been patiently waiting
I’m worn out

We are motionless and then we spiral
I am so tired
It is pulling us, it is time
Make up your mind

How Peaceful You Were

Written By: Or Zubalsky

Underneath the light of fluorescent lamps
You remember how you used to swing in and out of your slumbers

All you wanted then was to be alive
Carried by a dozen hands
Alternating the sun’s with the moon’s light

You’ll miss that when your fears show
You’ll miss that when you lose another battle
You’ll miss that yes it’s so nice to remember
How peaceful you were but no longer

You only grow
And things are looking sadder
No more being held
Without guilt or a prescription

With your feeble arms
All stretched and unable

You’ll miss that when your fears show
You’ll miss that when you lose another battle
You’ll miss that yes it’s so nice to remember
How peaceful you were but no longer

All We Ever Wanted Was To Lie

Written By: Or Zubalsky

We already know the outcome of this one
Yet we watch repeat renounce and form a pattern
All that’s left is waiting
It’s the pace that is changing

It’s embedded in me and in you alike
When it happens it will strike us hard
How could we anticipate it
All we ever wanted was to lie

Our vision is stained and broken
What came upon us is so cold and foreign
The point has come where it can no longer be undone
We have failed to speak instead we passed and passed the time

All we ever wanted was to lie
