Bio

J’Wan Yvette began singing at the age of 3 and writing songs and poetry by the age of 5. Growing up, she enjoyed singing in her elementary school chorus and by her teens she formed an R&B group called Diamond is Forever. During her teens she enjoyed performing with her group as well as developing her talent with the Craig Memorial Community Church Youth Chorale. After a move, J’Wan went on to perform with notable all-girl bands Genuine and Royalty. But she didn’t stray from her gospel roots, and became a part of the Abyssinia Baptist Church’s Davis Choral Ensemble. When J’Wan had her daughter in February of 2000, she took a break from the music industry. Not happy with the regular 9 to 5 scene she returned to the music industry in 2004, forming an independent label called JYMstone Entertainment. J’Wan released two CD’s in 2008 – The Official R&B Mixtape and What Could It Be – The EP. Her singles “What Could It Be”, “Catch 22”, and “Next to Me” have been aired on nearly 500 radio stations nationwide as well as internet radio. She has worked with the production team of BASSHEADS, a duo based in her home of Prince George’s County, Maryland. Her style has caught the attention of producers from New York to Atlanta. J’Wan has performed in several showcases for On-Point Entertainment and has headlined at the historic Bohemian Caverns (which was once owned by the legendary Cab Calloway and hosted such talent as Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan). She has performed at "Soulful Sundays" at Weyone Lounge in Alexandria, VA (hosted by songstress Canda and lyricist K.Nix and presented by Candalight Productions and DMVRadio.net).

Currently, J'Wan hosts an Internet radio show called "Justified Madness." The show can be heard at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/jwanyvette1 on Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 6:00PM ET, and the first Saturday of each month at 11:00PM ET. "Tuesday Tunes" showcases notable recording artists - signed and unsigned alike; Spoken Word Wednesdays showcases poets and spoken word artists. Then the first Saturday of each month, J'Wan brings you "Saturday Madness" which covers topics that affect all of our lives. J'Wan is also writing and recording new songs for her upcoming mixtape "Justified Madness" (due for a Christmas 2011 release) as well as a new album that will be released in early 2012. Her single "Real" (produced by BEATABUZA) is available now on iTunes. In addition to being a recording artist and radio host, J’Wan is a writer who has published two books – a poetry book called Words of Love and Life: An Emotional Journey, and a short novel called Invisible. Both are available at www.amazon.com or directly from the publisher at http://stores.lulu.com/KandiGyrl808.
