Kaabi Kouyate

Hailing from a family of celebrated griots, Kabine (Kaabi) Kandia Kouyate took on the mantle of the role after the passing of his father, the late Sory Kandia Kouyate. He continues the tradition of tying the past to the present while thrilling audiences around the world with his charismatic performances.

Renowned for his enchanting voice which has made him one of the most popular ambassadors of Guinean culture, the talented multi-instrumentalist, and composer has created works for albums as well as stage plays, where he has also made his mark as an actor. His impressive knowledge of music and diverse musical influences have made it possible for him to transcend the limits of world music, recording and performing with amongst others, jazz greats Dee Dee Bridgewater, Cheick Tidiane Seck, Paris Big Band as well as French rap artists Rockin' Squat and Assassin. His ability to compose and perform across genres makes him a modern day griot, spreading the message of peace, social and cultural awareness in the tradition of the oral historians of old.
