Biography

2008 Award winner for Country-Folk Song Of The Year via Southern California Mavric Music Awards. Independent touring Artist.
Washington, DC-native Kacey Cubero moved to California with a suitcase and a guitar, and soon became the front person for a local band opening for such national acts as The Fabulous Thunderbirds. Her first album was critically well-received, generating both mentors as well as opportunities.

A prolific songwriter, performer, and studio musician, Kacey has collaborated with an array of eminent singers and songwriters, including Jackson Browne, Louis Johnson, and Gary Scruggs. Her songs have been used in some well-known, independent films, such as Hey Mrs. Stu and Silver Dollars.

Singer Magazine has twice named Kacey Indie Artist of the Year. Her second CD, "Diamond in The Rough", includes a guest appearance by Leo Sayer, and displays Kacey’s remarkable songwriting, arranging, and producing skills. Following a solo tour to promote "Diamond in The Rough", Kacey joined other artists on a Hard Rock Cafe tour, across the U.S. to benefit underprivileged children, and ventured out on yet another solo tour to support the U.S. troops in Japan. Around the same time, Kacey found herself fronting the all-star IRS Band, as lead singer. Included in the band were Chris Slade (AC/DC, The Firm), Joe Molland (Badfinger), Greg Douglass (Steve Miller Band, Van Morrison), Mario Cippolina (Foreigner, Huey Lewis) and Terry Ilous (Xyz).

Kacey recently represented the Santa Barbara Blues Society in the International Blues Competition in Memphis. In 2009, Kacey won Country/Folk Song Of The Year via The Southern California Mavric Music Awards where She also kicked off the show at the Thousand Oaks Civic Auditorium. She contentedly continues to record, tour, write and perform, creating her own soulful, Americana sound. Music, it has been said, is a language unto itself, and Kacey writes and speaks it fluently and beautifully.

Lyrics

I Want More-Live

Written By: Kacey Cubero

arrives the highwayman tonight

she’ll lay him down by candlelight

it’s understood the sunrise beckons his retreat

12 hours bittersweet

brushes his hand across her lips

the taste of magic fingertips

his body heavy and his brow begins to sweat

she whispers not yet

she says I want more

I want more

you come and go and it’s never enough

and I want more

he reads the road signs checks his map

there’s too much distance to turn back

turns on the radio trying hard to forget

recalls the good thing he’s left

his memory forever scarred

somehow she’s crept into his heart

unlike anyone’s he’s met or ever known

he can’t let go

he sings I want more

I want more

I’ve rode for far too long now the truth is catching up

I want more

some days it’s hard to get my fill

I’m not without but even still

I can’t help wondering what lies on the other side

I want what’s mine

I want more

I want more

pity how such a sweet young girl had to turn out so tough

I want more

i’ve run for far too long and now the truth is catching up

and i want more

Reserve the Right-Live

NEWLEYWEDS SIX MONTHS THE FUTURE WAS BRIGHT

NOW YOU’RE BACK ON THE SCENE

I SHOULDA KNOWN THAT VERY FIRST NIGHT

EXACTLY WHERE THIS WOULD LEAD

IT’S NOT LIKE THERE’S ANYTHING BETTER OUT THERE

AND I’M WILLING TO SHARE SOME BLAME

CAREFUL HONEY THE INK’S BARELY DRY ON OUR LICENSE

I HAVEN’T EVEN CHANGED MY NAME

I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CHANGE MY MIND

FROM ONE DAY TO THE NEXT

THE TYPE OF CAR I DRIVE

SO KEEP IT NICE AND STEADY

KEEP YOURSELF IN LINE

‘CAUSE I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO CHANGE MY MIND

YOU’RE CONFIDENT, CHARMING AND SMART

THAT GETS YOU IN THE DOOR

IF YOU WANT TO GO OUT LOOKING FOR TROUBLE

JUST BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU ASK FOR

IT’S PRETTY SIMPLE I’M JUSTIFIED

AND I DON’T MIND BEING ALONE

YOU SEE AN APPLE THAT YOU WANNA BITE

DON’T BOTHER BRINGING YOUR ASS HOME

LIVIN IN SOME FANTASY

WOULD BE SUCH A BIG WASTE OF TIME

I TOLD YOU I'D TELL YOU THE TRUTH

SO BABY KEEP THOSE GREY SKIES BLUE

Just One Night

Written By: Kacey Cubero

YOU COULD STEAL MY INNOCENCE

YOU HOLD THE KEY

LEAD ME TO DRINK

BRING ME TO MY KNEES

SLIP OFF MY DRESS

SLIP OFF YOUR RING

LEND ME YOUR HAND

IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN

SHAMELESS DESIRE

MIGHTY THE FLAME

RAW SENSES BURNIN’

WHEN YOU WHISPER MY NAME

YOUR BREATH IS DEEP

AND SWEET WITH WINE

CERTAIN THE NOTION

OF JUST ONE NIGHT

MORNING WILL COME

SURE AS THE TRUTH

I PROMISE TO KEEP

MY SECRET WITH YOU

I’D LIKE TO STAY

BUT IT WOULDN’T BE RIGHT

BUT YOU CAN STEAL MY INNOCENCE

Set List

I like to switch up the set lists. My repertoire is constantly evolving as far as my originals and some covers. It´s refreshing and I figure I can never stop learning. We can play all night. A few original songs would include "Are you Ready", "It´s Late", & "She Isn´t Gone". Some covers might be from artists including anything from The Band to Shelby Lynne to Tom Petty. The list is endless really. There are so many great influences. Bonnie Raitt, Bob Dylan...
