KADA

KADA [born January 10, 1990 as Kathryn Maree Southwell] is a Singer Songwriter from Sawtell, New South Wales, Australia. Her sound has been described as a mixture of Pop, R&B soul & folk, infused with electronic sounds. Inspired by power women such as Alicia Keys, Beyonce, Florence Welch, Lauryn Hill, Mariah Carey & Whitney Houston, KADA hopes to follow in the footsteps of her musical heroines & pave a new path of her own as an artist.

In 2009 she made the move to California with her then boyfriend, Barney Miller [he became a C5/6 Quadriplegic after horrific car accident in 1999] who was learning to walk again at a spinal rehabilitation centre in Carlsbad, CA. Drawing inspiration from his progress & determination, Kada also found the inner strength & courage to reach for her dreams of being a performer. After 2 years of open mic nights she finally found some recognition & signed a production & distribution deal with LA independent label MNO Records. Since, Kada has written, recorded & digitally released her debut album, The Unknown. [Produced by John Edney] Available on iTunes. 

In late 2012 Kada sang the American National Anthem at the San Diego Padres Major League Baseball team stadium to a crowd of 25000 people. In April 2016 Garage Entertainment [producers & makers of Bra Boys & Fighting Fear] released a feature documentary called "You and Me" after 4 and a half years in the making. The story follows her & her now husband, Barney, through their life, love, friendships & the ongoing hard journey towards their goals.  Their belief in themselves, each other & the pure rawness of their honesty is what makes their story so relatable & empowering. Kada wrote & recorded 4 tracks for the film, which has had success with its cinema release throughout Australia & New Zealand & has now also secured International distribution. Her & her husband, Barney are now located between Sawtell, NSW & Carlsbad, California. 

In February, 2016 Kada released the first single "I'll Follow" from her sophomore album, (title pending). It will be released in 3 x 4 track EP installments throughout the year & feature tracks from their award winning documentary. [You and Me]
