Bio
KADAWA is a collective band formed in 2013 by
Israeli born and NYC based musicians Tal Yahalom, Almog Sharvit
and Ben Silashi.
Playing all original music by its three members, KADAWA focuses on presenting
compositions and improvisations that reflect personal life experiences/stories,
while drawing inspiration from other art forms such as literature, cinema and
visual art.
Often described as "Experimental-Rock-Jazz", the music ranges from
simpler, lyrical, song-like pieces to complex compositions, displaying various
sections, moods and collective free improvisations. The band incorporates jazz
harmonies, structures and improvisational qualities with grooves and sounds
that are derived from rock, as well as influences of 20th century
classical music.
"We strive to achieve a unique band sound and to be able to play as one:
to move inside the music effortlessly, make decisions together, and interact in
interesting ways. Our goal is to do so without looking at music on the
bandstand and even without looking at each other – to be completely spontaneous
in the moment and create something new every single time we perform.
We believe that our audience deserves to get a full experience - one that is
unique, creative and entertaining. That starts with our music but goes a long
way towards how we choose to present ourselves on and off the stage, in our
website and through social media."
During the last 3 years, KADAWA
developed its own repertoire of original music while performing at venues
across Israel (Levontin 7, Beit Haamudim), New York City (Rockwood
Music Hall, Nublu, Ibeam, Bowery Electric), and at international
festivals such as the 2015 Detroit Jazz Festival. The band is currently
performing on a weekly basis across NYC, producing shows at stylistically
diverse venues while creating a strong local fan base.
KADAWA's debut album is expected to be released in fall 2016.
Recorded as live, continuous sets of music in a huge warehouse space at an
underground studio in Brooklyn, the album features 12 original compositions as
well as special guests Adam O'Farrill on trumpet, Matt Bumgardner on trombone
and Micha Gilad on Rhodes, synths and toy piano. In the sonic realm, the band
collaborated with a unique group of creative musical minds as the album was
recorded by Ariel Shafir, mixed by Eivind Opsvik and mastered by Nate Wood.
