"PREMIERE: Kaiydo “Lottery” What would you do if you hit the jackpot?"

There’s a fantastical feel to Kaiydo’s music. The 19-year-old Florida artist linked up with producer and engineer Jay Jumpin his senior year of high school, and since then, they’ve been taking his sound to lofty places. But while the production may have you floating in the upper stratosphere, Kaiydo’s lyrics are grounded in emotions we’ve all felt. Before today, he only had three songs to his name, as part of a single series which started last December. His fourth release that we’re premiering today keeps the bar high.

The production on “Lottery” feels like a dream sequence on the beach, while his lyrics detail the hard work he’s put in up to this point. After all, luck is really preparation meeting opportunity, right? Although he dreams that he won the lottery but wakes up dead broke, we have a feeling that one day, soon enough, he’ll wake up on the other side of the tax bracket. We spoke to Kaiydo about creating “Lottery” and what he’d actually do with the money if he won the Powerball.

Mass Appeal: What marked the moment in your life where you felt like you hit the lottery in your career?

Kaiydo: I would say sometime in the last couple months. Only a couple records out and seeing the amount of buzz that’s already building is pretty surreal. I remember getting hit up by a major label for the first time. That’s always the dream you hear about growing up. “The big record deal” kinda gives you the feeling of hitting the lottery for a split second.

What then specifically happened after that made you realize you still had a ways to go?

Nothing too specific—just seeing how people really enjoy the music and how far I think I can take this. It pretty much comes down to never really being satisfied or content with my accomplishments. There’s always work to be done.

Does the ending where the song slows down reflect your waking up from your “dream”?

Yeah, that’s dope that you all peeped that [Laughs]. I tried to make the ending of the song different and really create a moment there instead of just the traditional fade out.

What constitutes a successful career for you?

I honestly don’t know. I mean, of course everyone wants the most money or the most fame, but I’d say it comes down to the music. If you can set the bar for the quality of music in this industry, I’d say you’re really doing something.

Is there any other reason aside from the color of money for associating this single with green?

I mean green was the next color lined up for this project (Colors and Sounds). So it kinda just make sense.

If you won the Powerball, what would your first purchase be?

A ticket out the country. People crazy [Laughs]. - Bryan Hahn

"Best New Artists of 2016 so far"

#19) Kaiydo hears colors and sees sounds—synesthesia, something he shares with one Kanye West. A background in graphic design exercised the Orlando rapper’s pink matter, and it shows in his music. The 19-year-old artist has shared four songs in six months, and each release comes complete with a distinctly styled piece of cartoon artwork that tastefully reflects his former career path.

Radiant, warm hues encircle the Florida rapper's lax deliveries on "Lottery" and "Arcade," songs in which dreams of jackpot winnings and aerial city-gazing encircle one another with a smooth charisma. A charming voice and sly wit make this upstart a must-listen. - Pigeons / Alex Siber

"New Music Roundup: Mac Miller, Felix Snow, Kaiydo & Ro James"

"I just had a dream I won the lottery" after listening to Florida rapper Kaiydo's latest track "Lottery." Well... the effect of winning millions and millions of dollars doesn't even compare, however, this song is a winner. With a bass-hitting instrumental and a catchy hook, this song provides that feel-good vibe that is essential for our music catalog heading into the summer time. It's time to start making that money for summer, so you don't "wake up dead broke." - Erin Ashley Simon
