"Band Overview"

Kalacoma's music is textured, menacing, and laden with emotional decrepitude but just as you feel the lights going out Nick Herrera's transcendent voice offers a lifeline. Taking cues from Radiohead, Massive Attack, Portishead and offering the accessibility of Muse, Kalacoma are a musical behemoth waiting to rise into the broader consciousness of alternative music - Beat Magazine

"Band Spotlight"

Textured, diverse and intrinsically interesting, Kalacoma are truly one of Melbourne's most promising acts and true colourful characters. Kalacoma would delight most audiences with a sound that is one part psychedelic rock, one part pure pop pleasure and a whole lot of musical ability. - Inpress Magazine

"Radio Segment"

Something that truly commands attention. This band instantly joined my 'must see live' list on first listen. I liken the title track of the EP 'Spiral Eyes' to a blending of the vocals of Jeff Buckley and the music of alternative rock legends Radiohead. The band has taken care to produce music with light, shade and intensity ensuring plenty to captivate and engage audiences. Kalacoma would compliment almost any line up and will soon become headliners in their own rite. - 4ZZZ Radio

"Spiral Eyes"

With an emphasis on intricate vocal melodies and timeless psychedelic rhythms, Melbourne trip-rockers Kalacoma have delivered an EP of persistent promise. Consisting of four elegantly designed tracks, Spiral Eyes is an experimental showpiece of expressive propensity, and a release that clearly exhibits the band’s aptitude in delivering engaging tunes of relentless quality.

With stylistically rich intentions and diversified soundscapes, the band is assured in production; seamlessly fusing electronic elements with acoustic foundations throughout the release. Taking cues from early Radiohead and Muse catalogues, the EP opens with avant garde title track “Spiral Eyes,” instantly presenting the transcendent vocals of frontman Nick Herrera in an offering of rolling descants and droney bass.
On follow up tune and EP highlight “Anxiety” the fragmented drumming patterns of Maria Moles are introduced, while Alan Erpi on keys and percussion evokes memories of These New Puritans in a romanticised refrain. The profuse ability of bassist Benjamin Tansey is then showcased on the absorbing anthems of “Ear To Ear”, while guitarist Marin Sekesan incorporates various synth samples to demonstrate the clear benefits of autonomous engineering and studio production.

Concluding with the instrumental arrangements of “Waves”, the EP is bookmarked as a release of assertive style and creative range, with free flowing composition that reaffirms the inventive content of the proficient five-piece. Certainly, Spiral Eyes is an absorbing debut EP that provides an inclusive taste of Kalacoma, and a sure sign the band are poised for bigger and better things. - Tone Deaf

Bio

Focusing on vocal melodies, intricate rhythms and with an air of timelessness, Kalacoma move from intensity to intimacy, fusing electronic and acoustic elements seamlessly in their live performance. Kalacoma engineer and mix all their own recordings in order to create a truly unique production style that plays as much a role in determining the sound as the instruments themselves.

With their EP "Spiral Eyes" released in 2013 at The Evelyn to a packed crowd and a debut album on the way in 2014, this year will inevitably be one to remember.

Introducing a band willing to push boundaries to extremes while retaining a more widely accessible sensibility.

Kalacoma have quickly been gaining momentum within the Melbourne underground scene through their live shows and toured in 2013 to support their single release and impressive self produced video, premiered on Tone Deaf (tonedeaf.com.au), which has been gathering much acclaim.

Other achievements include headlining a residency throughout June 2013 at the The Evelyn. They were also selected to headline Bar Open as part of the Leaps and Bounds Music Festival, as well as taking part in Progfest at the Esplanade Hotel and End of the Line Festival in Belgrave in 2013. They are also gearing up for an appearance on the Main Stage at Folk, Rhythm and Life Festival later this year.

Supporting some of Australia's greats such as Hiatus Kaiyote, Closure in Moscow, Ghost OrkidLamarama, El Moth, [ME], they continue to impress audiences with their own run of headline shows. Having also received extensive radio backing and more media support on the horizon, there is no stopping the momentum.
