Bio

Kali is a teacher and spoken word poet. Over the past five years she has taught writing at Virginia Tech, the University of Tampa, the University of South Florida St. Petersburg, and at a high school in Darmstadt, Germany. She earned her Masters in English from Virginia Tech in 2012 and her Bachelors in Creative Writing from the University of Central Florida in 2008. After joining the Tampa Bay spoken word community in February of 2012, Liz quickly established herself as a voice for social change. Her poetry explores the facets of female identity, and the spaces between the stereotypes that try to box us into limited expressions of ourselves.

Liz's passion lies in the place where poetry and education overlap. Woven throughout her teaching and poetry is a feminist world-view that promotes equality for all, regardless of gender, sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, faith, or socioeconomic standing. As a result, she often performs her poetry in support of grassroots organizations and campaigns to raise awareness for human rights issues and end discrimination. In addition to her passions for writing, speaking, and feminism, she has an insatiable hankering for frozen yogurt, and has likely been to every self-serve froyo shop in a 30 mile radius of her home in St Pete.
