"The new sound of Kalàscima"

Bio

Kalàscima is a reality of folk music from the Salento (South est of Italy) since 10 years.
A reading of Salento folk music that combines these sounds with those from Calabria, Sicily, from the Gargano and not least, with Balkan music, klezmer and Irish.
A repertoire of autor music made with sounds and instruments typically popular and rare as bagpipes, shawm, launeddas, duduk, low whistle, Italian tambourine, mandolin, Irish bouzouki.
A completely original sound, which is different and evolves from the sound popular classic revived, to become more international, but everytime strongly linked to the sound of South Italy, with the intention to create a new popular sound, new music alchemy, and a new and original interpretation of the popular repertoire of South Italy.
A project is firmly anchored to the traditionale sounds but also capable ti interpret a widespread need for "social memory".
So, Kalàscima was born from this 'need not to forget'. From that need to clarify, to remove from oblivion those
events, those people, those sounds that are the basis of our being Salento and of our humanity.
From this background, fundamental themes of storic memory of Salento become an integral part of the repertoire, together with rereading of the best songs ranging from traditional Salento music, from folk songs to a tarantella concert, which immediately turns into a dance party extremely engaging. Other than that, "The Revolt of Arneo", "August 8 '56 -
Marcinelle "," Guido Rossa, "" Meridionale "," Bancopoli ", etc, are only some of the many songs that make Kalàscima one of the most sensitive band of the "social memory".
Fok and traditional music can not only have a recreational function, but, rather, is its fundamental role as a "reminder", his ability to make known moments and important events that otherwise would probably
ignored or forgotten. Te research of the band, as well as on the front of historiography, has interested in more, even the traditional folk instruments.
The live performance is an opportunity to enjoy the sound of instruments also archaic, revisited for a great mix with modern roots music.
The combination of folk instruments, some traditional in their execution, and others result of other applications of modern technology evolution, belonging to different and distant geographical areas, features and identifies the Kalàscima’s sound.

The uniqueness of Kalàscima lies in the absolute innovativeness of a rhythm section that includes a set consisting of Tammorre, tambourines, doumbek, cajon, Irish bodhran, Djambe, marranzano, daf, darabuka, tar, riqq,
bass drum (see Riccardo Laganaà - Frederico Laganà).

and Gaita Basque (see Aldo Iezza).
The string section is headed by Massimiliano De Marco, whose set is composed of a series of acoustic guitars and classical, as well as mandolin. These instruments are complemented by outstanding sound of “'Irish bouzouki”.
To Luca "Amelie" Buccarella, virtuoso of accordion, is entrusted the melodic sound that characterizes the repertoires of central and southern Italy folk music. The modernization of traditional music takes new forms in the bass of Riccardo Basile who cares also the effects and programming.

The components of the band, are stable in some of the major European Folk band and orchestras including the Orchestra Popolare "La Notte della Taranta " (directed by Ludovico Einaudi, Steward Copeland, Mauro Pagani, Joe Zawinula, ecc), the “Orchestra Popolare Italiana” from the prestigious Auditorium "Parco della Musica" in Rome, the Pizzicata Orchestra, the Orchestra of Sicily.
