Bio

Zsolt Kaltenecker was born on October 12th, 1970. His family includes other musicians and artists, which both helped and hindered him in his development. He didn't decide too early to become a musician, but once he had made his mind became totally committed and remains so to this day. Then he attended the jazz-piano department of the Liszt Ferenc University of Musical Arts, followed by studies in New York with Jaki Byard. However, Zsolt Kaltenecker's albums, the reviews of these and his music say more about him than the bare biographical details.
"In solo he is as good as in a trio, he makes standards and other pieces as much as his own pieces, virtuoso and calm, courageous and restrained, serious and bohemian, he loves music and suffers for it... This is exactly what everyone expects of jazz: it should be born live and die there and now before us, before our eyes." (Gramofon, December 1999)
"Zsolt kaltenecker is one of the most important pianists that quality European jazz label Gats Production has brought to our attention. First of all we can see his brilliant technique, which reminds one most of Oscar Peterson os other similar quality pianists. His phrasing is so unique, quite different to anyone else. I addition, his feeling for harmony is fantastic.... In its performance, the trio combines contemporary music, jazz and traditional Eastern European music, We look forward to hearing from this piano trio ver often in the future!" (Musee Magazine, Japan, 2002)
"In addition to the well-known, incredible virtuosity, the style of three members of the Kaltenecker Trio is supplemented with unprecedented musical cherge together with aesthetic and tasteful dynamic solutions that haven't been heard so far!...The trio's style is characterised by a strong eclecticism, which uses and drastically takes forward the greats of the jazz-rock era of the 1970's - I can hear at a first listening Weather Report, Manfred Mann, ELP and Pink Floyd." (Fidelio, 2005)
