Kampfgrounds' self-titled EP

By Jeremy Krinsley ยป There's something about the lead singer of Kampfground's particular nonchalance that reminds me of Jonathan Richman, but the greatest moment of this free EP from the new Denton band, other than the parts where there songs get really grubby and messy (see "Nerves in the New World"), is the end of "Paul Masters", in which the dudes discuss at what point in the song they lost their boners. (End of the second verse.)
Kampfgrounds' self-titled EP

It's nice to find a band with a good sense of humor that can also get past boner jokes, where a song like "Paul Masters" hinges on goofy swathes of character painting.

Opening in Paul Masters first person "And I never should have let anything that big in my throat," the first verse goes, "Paul Masters has a library card. He's very well read with an expansive vocabulary. As a result he has crossword skills and he can probably spell better than me." We're gonna need to put the garage band babel fish app from there. I usually hate when people complain about hearing the words, but Kampfground's Matthew Koons should consider enunciating this stuff.
