KANU

 Mount Laurel, New Jersey, USA
BandR&BHip Hop

My music is a combination of neo-soul smooth, hip hop attitude and R&B cool with a splash of alternative, funk and jazz.

Biography

I am six years in the making--underground. I've been writing songs almost as long as I could write and started quietly singing in the safety of our church pews, my shower and in my room, car (read:aware but in public). I am influenced by Nas, Erykaha Badu, bebop and alternative rock alike.
I started singing outloud at age 22. Did some hooks for North Jersey's answer to Wu-Tang ----Forbidden Chapters, and began recording my brand of hip hop soul inspired tracks. I sang back for a Hip Hop Rock band, Government Cheez and moved a little more forward with the hip hop jam band Fuse. Took a break from bands to focus on m own shit. Finished a hip hop soul electro explosion album I'm finally now releasing called "Release Me". In the meantime, I joined the Funk soul rebels of The Funky Circus and the afrobeat band de Afrophoniks Rhythms Crew. And I am currently working on some other projects. Stay tuned....
