Bio

Music runs through Kara’s blood. Whistling and humming, through her early childhood years, Kara has defined herself through the sounds that have inspired her every day. “This is what I am supposed to be doing,” exclaims the talented young artist, whose voice soars with unmistakable passion and emotion!

Born in Kansas City, Missouri, Kara Lee Britz is the daughter of a professional Christian singing mother and a lyrically gifted father. She is the youngest of three very musical children, and spent time living in Germany before the family settled down in Winchester, Virginia. At age 6, Kara began classical piano lessons, and sang along to both Gospel and contemporary classics. In typical Kara fashion, she followed her own beat and a started drum lessons in the 4th grade!

By age 11, Kara was playing drums and singing in her first band “TCC”. The group played gigs around town, traveled the East Coast, and opened for “The Platters”, famed for their hits “Earth Angel” and “Only You (And You Alone)”. As Kara grew up, she continued to expand her musicality. Her bands “Almost Country” and “Luckie” played the local bars, Harley-Davidson parties, and Winchester’s ‘Apple Blossom Festival’…. even though she was years away from a driver’s license or entry into the clubs she played! Kara dedicated her junior high and high school nights and weekends, writing, recording, and cultivating her ability.

Two weeks after graduating high school, Kara celebrated her parents’ blessing to move to Los Angeles, and pursue her musical ambitions. She attended the Musician’s Institute, studying voice, and quickly found herself singing on major label records and alongside established artists. From performances with Lindsay Lohan on The American Music Awards and MTV’s TRL, to OK Go! on ‘The Tonight Show’, The Backstreet Boys, Avril Lavigne, and Hillary Duff. Kara’s distinctive and extraordinary talent has taken her where most 22 year olds only dream.

In 2007, Kara began work on her debut album, collaborating with Aaron Kamin, founder of the multi-platinum selling band “The Calling”. The two met quite fatefully, as Kara’s brother Corey played bass in the band’s world tour. “There’s no one like her,” assures Kamin, “…her voice takes you to places the heart, mind, and body know so well!” Kara’s refers to her first collection of original material as “The diary of a 22 year old,” it is a coming of age record that touches deeply, “… writing is my therapy. It’s a place where I can open up.” The Bourbon Street inspired track “Stay Away” opens the album with a brilliant energy. Songs like “You Could’ve Been” and “Not Your Kinda Girl” open up about relationship issues, while “Under My Bridge” and “Believe” share an intimate and personal self-reflection.

With a moment’s listen, it is indeed obvious that Kara has music running through her blood.
