Kara Stephens.

Kara Stephens is passionate about music. She lives for it really. She recalls being three years old singing on stage at her parents' church, and from that moment on, she has been driven to perform. She truly believes that each individual who has been given the passion for music was actually given a gift...a gift to either write, sing, produce, dance, whatever it may be. She also believes that it is a priviledge to be able to express one's creativity through music and that if not used, can be lost. Kara considers any opportunity to perform her music to be an honor, whether she gets paid or not. But let's be honest, it's always better when you're compensated, is it not? Is it not every musician's ultimate goal to be paid for doing what they love? I think yes.

Kara's music is versatile. Each song is different from the next. Her style ranges from R&B to Jazz, Funk to Blues, Pop Rock to Dance. Really, she is in a category of her own. Listening to her music you'll feel sad one moment and sexy the next. Angry one moment and silly the next. Kara draws from personal experiences when she writes her music. Everything is very personal. Losing her brother to suicide. Falling in love for the first time, Again. A broken heart over a cheating lover. Her crazy sex life....

Growing up, Kara was a member of every performing group she could get into. These groups included: Grammy Vocal Jazz under the direction of the one and only Quincy Jones and Glen Carlos at USC; the California All-State Honor Choir; Mt. SAC "Singcopation" under the direction of the incomparable Bruce Rogers where the group was voted 4 years in a row by the prestigious jazz magazine, Downbeat, as "the best college vocal jazz group in the nation"; Mt. SAC Chamber Singers which toured throughout Europe and won multiple First Place awards at the prestigious Eisteddfod Festival, "The Olympics of Music", in Llangollen, Wales. Every year during the holiday season, you can find Kara dressed as a Definitely Dickens Holiday Caroler singing throughout California at various locations including Disneyland, celebrity homes and private parties, corporate events, on television shows and news programs, and countless other events.

Kara's love of music goes hand in hand with acting. She has appeared in television shows such as: ABC's General Hospital, MTV's The Osbournes, and FOX's Ally McBeal. Commercial credits include Tombstone Pizza, and film credits include Love and Soul, Goodbye Lover, and The Adventures of Joe Dirt. Some of her favorite theater productions she has appeared in include Rock on Broadway, Grease, Pirates of Penzance, Godspell, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar, The Recital, South Pacific, Anything Goes, A Chorus Line, and My Fair Lady.

For the past 4 years, Kara has been the lead vocalist of the popular Top Forties band, Grand Illusion, and was recently hired as a lead vocalist in the up and coming band, Vanity Fair. She has also been fortunate enough to be able to sing in various jazz clubs throughout Southern California with some of the most talented jazz musicians around.

Kara listens to and is inspired by a variety of music including Fiona Apple, Ben Folds, Billy Holiday, Diana Krall, different R&B, Jazz, Gospel, and Hip Hop artists...so random, but all good stuff.

Kara is currently working on her album with a tentative release date for Feb. 2008...keep your ears open for it!
