Bio

Heralded as one of the most prolific and enormously gifted singer/songwriter/actors
of our times, Kareem – aka: John Hudson has now advanced from his self-imposed exodus from the music world, to resurface and claim his rightful place in the annals of songwriting history.

His writing style defies classification into any particular genre of music, as demonstrated throughout the highly acclaimed 10-13 album. Instead, Kareem dares to reach deep into many spectrums of music, including R & B, Rock, Soul, Pop and House Music.

Kareem credits his drive and passion to excel as a songwriter to Philadelphia Politician Tom Montgomery, whose daughter Thomasina Montgomery achieved fame in Motown’s era of the 1960’s as Tammy Terrell. Working under the close tutelage of Mr. Montgomery in his barbershop - where many music legends (such as James Brown, Marvin Gaye and Stevie Wonder would get haircuts whenever they came to town to perform at the world famous “Uptown Theater”) - Kareem learned the same work ethic as Terrell: “Whatever you decide to do, do it with all of your heart, and with passion.”

Fast forward to young adulthood, where Kareem was working at a candy factory – but couldn’t harness his musical prowess and desire to perform. At breaks, he entertained the female candy enrobers smoking on the loading dock, befriending another worker who accompanied him on vocals - Gerald Veasley (internationally known jazz bassist), with the two deciding to form a group later named the Premonition Band.

After nearly three years of performing, the act disbanded – giving Kareem the freedom to continue his own singing/songwriting journey, which ultimately led to the CD Soul Ridin earlier this year.

Sensational R & B singles like “Nasty Girl” and “Clear Away the Stain” from his new CD,  10 –13, and the title track from Soul Ridin, received airplay on Internet radio station SRROCKS.com, with Kareem being the “featured artist” at one point.

Kareem’s plaudits for the highly regarded 10-13 album, the sizzling hot new single “Nasty Girl” was ranked # 1 on SRROCKS.com’s “Favorite Song Poll” eclipsing numerous rock legends both young and old by over 300 votes. Radio station WSTW 93.7FM’s “Hometown Heroes” in addition to Soul Talk Radio in Baltimore, Maryland, would subsequently begin spinning tracks from the 10-13 album. The release of  10–13 was tied to Kareem’s performance with national recording artist Keke Wyatt on October 15. Both CDs are available on Amazon.com and through iTunes.

Since then, Kareem has continued to build his viral presence – with legions of Facebook fans and Twitter followers.

Who knows what lays ahead for one of the most gifted and hottest singer/songwriters to come out of Philly since the heyday of “The Sound of Philadelphia.”
