Biography

KAREN LOU NICOLE

Karen Lou Nicole is Calgary's newest pop sensation and a true performer at heart. Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Karen Lou brings a distinct vocal sound and insightful lyrics to Calgary's growing music scene. Each track that she creates is excitingly different as she is not afraid to experiment to create that new sound sought after by artists worldwide.

Karen Lou Nicole is currently working on her first album, with a tentative release for the fall of 2008. She has committed herself to understanding all aspects of creating music, and therefore takes a vested interest in the entire album creative process. Karen Lou writes her own music and lyrics, has an interactive role as co-producer and mixer, as well as takes on manufacturing and distribution roles. She maintains creative control right down to album covers, promotional ideas, and photo shoots. Consequently, she remains open minded, understanding the value of a true professional and elicits the help of top producers, distributors, and photographers whenever she can.

Enrolled in the Allan Cozzubbo Academy of Dance, Karen Lou Nicole spent eight years performing song and dance routines at annual competitions across Alberta, often securing a place amongst the top acts. Energized by performing, Karen Lou began keeping a journal and writing down emotions and poetry which would later be converted into powerful lyrics. Nicole then complimented her love affair with the stage by singing in talent competitions throughout her school years, aware that her self promotion was increasing the audience size year after year. To the delight of her peers, Karen Lou auditioned and won places to sing at both of her school graduations, performing for audience sizes well over a thousand people. Eager to experiment intimate venues, she then fronted a cover band on the local scene.

Never finished growing, Karen Lou Nicole increased the amount of time she spent writing and began to develop complete songs whilst learning to play the guitar. Aware, appreciative, and understanding of the business aspects surrounding the music industry, Karen Lou Nicole successfully graduated college with a business marketing diploma, achieving academic honors. She continues to spend much of her time researching and learning as a compliment to her artistic writing and producing abilities.

Karen Lou Nicole consistently shows great determination and self-discipline, taking her music career very seriously. Her upcoming album is diverse and upbeat. It will be sure to get the blood flowing within the listener to allow them to forget the stresses of the everyday working world. Her artistic goal is longevity and she will prove to be a valuable addition to anyone's musical library.

Fight The Brigade

Written By: Karen Lou Nicole McIsaac

FIGHT THE BRIGADE

They didn’t want you to know that
They were taking all of your control back
Didn’t want you to see them
Making games with the people they’re leading
Didn’t want to let you know
We’re not working for a common goal
Didn’t want you to think

Now they’re hoping that our minds are open
To the record that’s marked by their pen
Now they’re rolling for top dice
To see who loses the most lives
Now they’re willing to let you go
We’re the suckers that suffer the hard roll
Didn’t want you to think

(Chorus)
I was hoping to fight the Brigade
I was hoping to live in a life that I made
I was hoping to fight the Brigade
I was hoping to live in a life that I made
Tired of living like a circus clown
I’m going to be the one to bring it down

Have they told you what’s to follow
Was it something that was hard to swallow
Have they told you that you are next
The front runner in one of their projects
Now they’re willing to let you go
We’re the suckers that suffer the hard roll
Didn’t want you to think

(Chorus)

They didn’t want you to know that
I was hoping to fight the Brigade
Didn’t want you to see them
I was hoping to fight the Brigade
Now they’re willing to let you go
We’re the suckers that suffer the hard roll
Didn’t want you to think

So whatcha gonna do when I’m outspoken
How do you deny the truth I’ve broken
So whatcha gonna do when I’m outspoken

(Chorus x3)

Imagination On Parole

Written By: Karen Lou Nicole McIsaac

IMAGINATION ON PAROLE

There’s this one thing that I’ve been meaning to say
Always so many other words in the way
I never mean to take you for granted
I mean to water the love we planted

I’d like to thank you for all your self control
My imagination should be on parole
I believe sometimes my words sting
I never mean to insult you my king

(Chorus)
All I can say is sorry
But I didn’t mean to write your story
I took away my own glory
But I didn’t mean to write your story

I have embarrassed us both a little by now
I hope to mend this I hope you’ll show me how
Together I know that we’re stronger
And we don’t want to crusade any longer

(Chorus)
Ooooo I didn’t mean to write your story
Ooooo and I’m sorry

About that thing that I’ve been meaning to say
Did all my words come out and play the right way

Ooooo and I’m sorry (I didn’t mean to write your story)

(Chorus x2)
I feel humiliated x2

Enlighten

Written By: Karen Lou Nicole McIsaac

ENLIGHTEN

Do you want to enlighten
To get down and sort out what is frightening
This is your debut but we cannot hear you
Are you ready to be adored
Don’t be scared to declare what is unexplored
We are still listening this excitement is blistering
So come here in your brilliance
I will love you and prove your existence
Feeling your rhythm it’s time to give in
Do you want to enlighten
To get down and sort out what is frightening
Well turn it up, hey, hey, hey, here we go

(Chorus)
When people get together
All the colors get a little more bright
When people love each other
Our vivid darks turn to stark white light
Hey, hey, the shadows get one hell of a fight, hey, hey

So go on and reach out now
Grab your neighbors hand and you’ll feel proud
So glad you’re listening there’s no sense resisting
Don’t let fear get in your way
It’s not time to assume any kind of delay
Return the feeling and soon you’ll be reeling
If you need to feel loves cleanse
Well go out and gather up all of your friends
Let go of worry release all your hurry
Do you want to enlighten
To get down and sort out what is frightening
Well turn it up, hey, hey, here we go

(Chorus)
And now you’re listening
(Chorus)
And now you’re listening

Do you want to enlighten
To get down and sort out what is frightening
When people get together
All the colors get a little more bright
Are you ready to be adored
Don’t be scared to declare what is unexplored
We are still listening this excitement is blistering
