The Lady Behind The Music
Native of St. Louis, Missouri, Karens first music experience began at the age of seven, when she with her sisters and brother at their Grandmothers Baptist church events. Her love for music propelled her into listening to Jazz, Folk, International (world-music from Africa, Asia, Latin America and India) and Broadway Show Tunes. Her melodic sounds were greatly influenced by jazz greats such as, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Diana Washington, as well as singer-songwriters Roberta Flack, Phoebe Snow, Joni Mitchell, Sade and Melba Moore. I fell in love with different styles of music and melodic voice tones and the way these artists communicated different moods in each song.
At the age of 19, Karen began her singing debut in Jazz clubs around the St. Louis area. She relocated to Fort Mitchell, Kentucky to attend Thomas Moore College. While in school, Karen continued her passion for singing at College events, Jazz Clubs and Church. There was a huge void in my life, says Karen, my passion for singing and music was not fulfilling. True fulfillment came in June of 1984, when Karen gave her life to the Lord Jesus Christ. Her music now had meaning and life! She began songwriting, which led her into her calling as a Psalmist and Minister of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Through her powerful transformation in the Holy Spirit, Karen now leads people into the presence of the King. Karen has served in music ministry for over 20 years.
Karen and husband, Sylvester, co-founded Heart of the Matter Ministries International in 1999. They are ordained ministers, both teaching and preaching the Gospel, ministering restoration, reconciliation, and wholeness to broken and hurting people. Karen also has a ministry to the blind and disabled in South India. She travels annually with a native Pastor, John Wilmott, where she trains and preaches to the native pastors, helping them to better minister to these hurting people, She reaches out to the blind and disabled in Chennai and Madurai, including widows and children in two gypsy colonies. Much of the funds raised through Karens singing, training and conference speaking goes to support this ministry. Karen herself is partially blind in both eyes, so these precious people are close to her heart.
Karens service to the Lord include the following:
Served as Worship Leader and Conference speaker for Dr. Fred L. Hodge Ministries, International Praise Ministries in Chatsworth, California.
Traveled and sang on praise team and led worship services under the music leadership of Dr. Fred L. Hodge for Mark T. Barclay Ministries Holy Spirit conferences across the nation for five years.
Served as Music Pastor of the Worship Arts Department at Courts of Praise, Fairfield, Ohio for four years.
Served as Worship Leader for the Jesus Christ Center Church in Cincinnati, Ohio for seven years.
Currently serving as the minister of music at an inner city outreach ministry of her home church Princeton-Pike Church of God in Hamilton, Ohio.
Musical Recording
Her first recording was released in 2002. She wrote many of the songs on this worship CD entitled, Songs of the Heart.
Her second singer/songwriter CD project is called Psalms of the Heart. It features Gospel Jazz and Inspirational World music. This 2-disc CD project will transform and inspire the listeners to grow closer with their walk with God.
In addition to working on her own CD projects, Karen has participated in several other recording projects as a lead singer and background vocalist for International Praise Ministries.

In South India. Karen appeared on television in Madurai where she was featured singing in the Tamil language and completed a music video in February 2008.

She has made several guest appearances on a national television broadcast, Miracles Still Happen with Pastor/Evangelist Sam Luke, along with national recording artists Virtue & Anointed.
Guest Musical Artist on the Trinity Broadcasting Network (TBN), Richmond Indiana.
Since 1985, Karen has preformed on television during the Holy Spirit Conferences in Midland Michigan and San Diego, California.
