World/Afro groove: a blend of funk, soul, pop, urban sounds and carribean influences

Biography

The roots of black music stretches across the ocean from Africa and America to the Caribbean islands and Europe. This journey of a people and their culture - a journey of joy and struggle - is mirrored in the personal story of Karlex.
Singer and songwriter Karlex blends the scratch 'n' riff guitar sounds and the Rhodes piano of classic funk and soul with the fat-bottom bass of dub and roots reggae as well as a little touch of electro to create a frothy musical blend called Afro Groove

Karlex' songs radiate emotion and thoughtfulness with themes of love, love lost, loneliness and the quest for freedom and liberty. Currently residing in France, after releasing his album, "Ghetto Fabulous," in 2006 to much critical acclaim. He is back with a new album "WITH ALL DUE RESPECT" due to be released in April 2009

The new album mixes themes of love "Everyday", crisis of faith induced by the misery of the south "Do you Know my name", the need for one to find freedom within "Liberated" and a better world "Onè Respè" litterally "Honor Respect" which is a formula in parts of the haitian country side whenever one wants to ask entrance into someone's home, you say "Honor" and they welcome you with the word "Respect" which is what those of the South are asking of the North.

Karlex is at your door, wanting to share his music with you with all due respect: Honor/ Respect

Lyrics

I've got news for you...

Written By: Karlex Antoine

I’ve got News for you

You hear bombastic beat
booming from my car radio
Brothers poetic vibration
blown at the world imbroglio
Caught up in the groove
You wanna get up and dance
You wanna get up and sing
You wanna get up and
Do the boogie oogie yeah
But you don’t dare
‘cause the bill is high
Here comes the collector
Knocking at you door

You can’t understand me culture
No reason to revert to your old ways
Don’t try to diss such a great heritage
My roots are deep
Listen to my message

I’ve got news for you…I’m free
I walk my own walk
I’ve got news for you…I’m free
I dance my own dance
I’ve got news for you…I’m free
Free at last…

You robed us of our pride
And took our woman for the ride
Took it like men that we are
Stood tall and got back our dignity
Now it shocks you
That your women like our vibes
When you talked about
Equality, one world, one people
One book
Tell me man
Is it all jive

You say that you’ve got an open mind
Stop judging what you don’t understand
Don’t try to diss such a great heritage
My roots are deep
Listen to my message

I’ve got news for you…I’m free
I walk my own walk
I’ve got news for you…I’m free
I dance my own dance
I’ve got news for you…I’m free
Free at last…

I walk my own walk
Talk my own talk
I am who I am
I dance my own dance
Sing my own song
I am who I am
I am who I am
I am who I am
Yes I ‘m free
Free at last
Free at last
Free at last

Ghetto Fabulous

Written By: Karlex Antoine

Ghetto Fabulous

What If I die
What Is I fall
Down down on my knees
And rolled in the mud
Some people say
Higher you rise
Harder you fall
Some people smile
To see a brother
Down down on his luck
So what if I die
So what if I fall
As long as I have you
To hold my hands

I am ghetto fabulous
I am black beautiful
You’re my Venus
Suburbia’s beautiful
you’re so beautiful
So so beautiful

What if I die
What if I fall
I am black phoenix
You’re my eternity, yeah
We are gorgeous souls
Living in a mystical world
Poetic romance
Make us soul survivors
How could we die
How could we fall
We are eternals
And burn in the shade

I am ghetto fabulous
I am black beautiful
You’re my Venus
Suburbia’s beautiful
you’re so beautiful
So so beautiful

I’m ghetto fabulous
You’re my Venus
I’m ghetto fabulous
You’re my Venus
We burn in da shade
We burn in da shade…

Farewell Angel

Written By: Karlex Antoine

Farewell Angel

Sun has set
No candles will burn tonight
Sky is dark
No stars bring hope tonight
Shut my eyes
To escape my loneliness
Scream my pain out
No one hears
In a room full of tears

I got no angel
To watch over me
I got no prayers
To be heard
Who listens anymore?

In my bed
I curled up like the boy I used to be
Try to hear
Your steps there’s only silence
Break from time to time
By my mother’s cries
I shiver
Spread too thin to cover

I got no angel
To watch over me
I got no prayers
To be heard
Who listens anymore?

You must be walking
This tunnel of everlasting life
Rays of light
Welcome you and warm you up
Will I ever
See you (and) touch you again
I got to believe it
I need to believe this
To go on

I got no angel
To watch over me
I got no prayers
To be heard
Who listens anymore?

Who listens?
Who listens?
Now…
When your angel is gone
Who listens?
Who listens?
Now…
That my Father’s gone
Now that my dad is gone…

Liberated (Tomorrow can wait)

Written By: Karlex Antoine

LIBERATED (TOMORROW CAN WAIT)

Do you know?
Do you know?
Are you living the life?
The life you wanna lived
Are you a free man?
Or just a slave
To the system
Will you follow the path?
Or do the math
To your own grand master plan

Are you?
Liberated

Living for the day
Living crazy
Tomorrow can wait
Dancing thru the night
‘till the moon dies
Tomorrow can wait
Living for the day
Living crazy
Tomorrow can wait
Dancing thru the night
‘till the moon dies
‘till it pales in the morning sky

Do you see?
Do you see?
Those walls they put around you
Choking your life away
Choking (chipping) your soul away
Will you break your back?
Or will you stand tall and walk
Fierce like a lion
(In Zion)
Free like an eagle
(In the sky yeah)

Are you liberated?
Free yourself
Free yourself
Free from mental slavery (from a slave mentality)
Free yourself from bad education
Free yourself from all the strapping of life
The world of consumption
Can you live without all your plastics?
American express
Master card
Visa
You don’t have to be part of the crowd
Are you
Liberated….

Do you know my name, (regular version lyrics)

Written By: Karlex Antoine

DO YOU KNOW MY NAME

Dear God
Give us rain fall
Our crops will grow
Our corn will grow
Our children fed

Dear God
Give us sunshine
Our rice will bloom
Our breadfruit ripe
Our elder fed

Give us this day
Our daily bread
Our daily cassava
Some peanut butter
Sweetie mangoes
Meaty avocadoes
Fresh coconuts
Oh Lord can you hear?

Do you know my name?
Do you know my face?
Will you pick up the phone?
If I call home to you

Dear God
Silence our guns
Give us the strength
To put our weapons down
Our people say
Since Guinea
Black against black
Blood against blood
Brothers against brothers
What’s going on?
Give us wisdom
To fight for peace
Prosperity and harmony
Prosperity
Oh Lord

Do you know my name?
Do you know my face?
Will you pick up the phone?
If we call home to you
