A composer/songwriter, performing musician, and an innovative educator living in the Boston metro area, Karl has performed, recorded, and toured with national acts such as Copal, Beantown Swing Orchestra, Brad Byrd, The Lee, and Lovewhip, and has produced and recorded original music for his upcoming LP release. Currently working towards his Masters in Composition from Longy School of Music, Karl is working to fuse elements of modern classical composition with songwriting, deeply affected by the sounds of the soul.
Karl Grohmann and Band (KGB) play in the Northeast area from Portland ME to NYC
and have graced audiences with an indie-folk rock style compared to Andrew Bird, Wilco, Peter Gabriel, and David Gray. Their set list includes originals and a few cover songs that are intertwined with both
lyrical and instrumental pieces.

As an educator, Karl is on the faculty of a private school in the Boston area where he teaches music theory and ensembles, holds a private practice, and is producing web videos showing his approach to creating music.

Lyrics

Immigrant

Written By: Karl Phillip

Beautiful people in their silky suits.
Work for something with a lot to lose.
Their shiny shoes are walking on, lonely land.
Cause they know not when, where, why, or how to find a friend.

Immigrants got no time to waste.
Tears of sweat, run through their veins.
Millions of people got their right to live.
Somewhere at the border something’s got to give.

Hey, I got more to say
These shoes are walking in the mud all day.
I’m quiet now but listen, someday I’ll yell and scream.
All everyone is saying,
Hey, you are
An Immigrant.

Miles and miles of empty land.
Trying to run from the law at hand.
Freedom is just one hundred miles away.
They work for nothing so let them stay.

Hey, I got more to say
These shoes are walking in the mud all day.
I’m quiet now but listen, someday I’ll yell and scream.
All everyone is saying,
Hey, you are
An Immigrant.

These shoes are walking in the mud all day.

Elodie

Written By: Karl Grohmann

Time has a way of telling stories
Ten different ways
But I'm not sure, I believe this about you.

Standing on line
Looking behind
Taking a chance to hold
To hold the door for someone new

Chorus:
Who are you Elodie
Who are you Elodie
Who are you Elodie

Is it true, your name spoken sweetly
Is it true
That I can meet you
Or is it just another game.

Watching on a highway
Peering through the glass
As the schoolbus rides away
Thinking whether or not I should say

Time has a way of telling stories
Ten different ways
But I'm sure, I believe this about you. I open my eyes
and I realize I was wrong
I should have said your name

In Your Arms Again

Written By: Karl Grohmann

I took this old train
From Georgia to Maine
Just to see you
Friend I have grown old
Old with the change
With weather I've seen
You remember me well
Like I was seventeen
In your arms again.

There, there was a time
when war took me away from you
away from my home
Stay stay far from me
I said to you
Leave before we run away
Oh we runaway yeah yeah

Yeah Yeah
In your arms again (4x)

If I stayed with you
Would I be blind
night before day
face is this real life
looking at you looking over at me.
Pain tears in my eyes
As you hold me in your arms again.

There, there was a time
when war took me away from you
away from my home
Stay stay close to me
Now that you're here
In my arms again

Break Down

Written By: Karl Grohmann

By blistering winds that sail my way
I am defeated, curled in a ball.
My skin has rot, the red visible,
For anger, for knowing all.

I am warned, for falling branches,
Oh how I've run, through fields of souls.
My deceit wears on my clothes,
Teaching the voice, shaking befalls.

In flight I discover changing colors,
Of the tippy-top of my innards.
I resign to the awakening of my heart,
Allowing you to look inwards.
