Silly Things

Written By: Karoline Krüger/Mike McGurk

I say silly things
they start out as funny things
turn into silly things
when you´re around

And I dress to kill
hoping my presence will
make your whole world stand still
when I´m around

All the things I say
to have you look my way
to somehow make you stay
one minute more
But I say silly things
simply stupid things
when you´re around

I´ll have two drinks more
just to be really sure
that I don´t leave before
you do

And when you´re set to go
I´ll need a lift although
I live ten miles or so
from you

Just to make you see
the clever and witty me
(that I used to be
in another life...)
But I say silly things
simply stupid things
when your´re around

Just to make you see
the clever and witty me
that I am usually
just being me
But I say silly things
simply stupid things
when your´re around

But at home at night
everthings clear and right
and my words can do
all that I want them to
when I´m there with you
but I say silly things
simply stupid things
when you´re around

The Confession

Written By: Mike McGurk

I could have saved the Earth that day
but chose to look the other way
it wasn’t that I didn’t care
the time was right and I was there

I knew the worth of what we had
praised the good ..ignored the bad
I shook my head and with a sigh
just let all warnings pass me by

my mind too full of daily cares
to wrestle with such grave affairs
unwittingly but with my heart
I watched our planet fall apart

I would not open ear and eye
and thus I caused our Earth to die
I could have played my part that day
but said “let others lead the way”..

“let others sign some weighty pakt
dictating where and when to act”
so I could live untouched by shame
while others queued to share the blame

I could have saved the Earth that day
but chose to look the other way
it wasn’t that I didn’t care
the time was right and I was there

A Heart That Is Open

Written By: Mike McGurk

I can’t see through
all that you cling to
still I’m amazed
by the comfort it brings you

I can’t keep on
slipping and sliding
hoping to find out
by chance where you’re hiding

find me a heart that is open
poised like a bird
when it leaves the nest
a heart full of dreams
yet unspoken and I’ll…
I’ll do….the rest

I don’t want you
to rearrange who
you are at heart
and what good
would such change do

but I long for
days split asunder
by a heart beating
as gentle as thunder

feeling the heartaches … being alive
knowing the heart breaks…sensing the heart wakes just now

find me a heart that is open
poised like a bird
when it leaves the nest
a heart full of dreams
yet unspoken and I’ll…
I’ll do….the rest

Always So Wary

Written By: Mike McGurk

always so wary
of doing what’s right
afraid of the dark
but so shy of the light
you’re the closest to truth
that you’ve ever been
stop treating it like
it was something obscene

there is no way
you can cover your bet
the odds are so high
but as good as they get
we’re done with the talking
it’s action we need
so start moving mountains
I’ll follow your lead

always so wary
of finding your way
reluctant to go
but frightened to stay
so set on denying
the map in your hand
that you swim for your life
when your ship reaches land

there is no way
you can cover your bet
the odds are so high
but as good as they get
we’re done with the talking
it’s action we need
start moving mountains
I’ll follow your lead

Discography

In the course of eighteen years Karoline Krüger has released six solo albums and has been featured on numerous others. Her debut album, "Fasetter" (Facets) was released in 1988. It was with "Fuglehjerte" (The Heart of a Bird), 1993, that she really blossomed as lyricist and composer. The triology of the "Jacob's Mass", for which she wrote the music, have since the first performance in Oslo in 2000, been performed and broadcasted in several Scandinavian countries.

Her latest solo CD "De to Stemmer" (The Two Voices), based on lyrics by Norwegian poet André Bjerke, received exellent reviews and was also nominated for the Norwegian Grammy Award 2005.

The last years, Karoline has enjoyed great success on the stage of the theater: a major role in the critically acclaimed modern cabaret version of Ibsen´s “Peer Gynt” has taken her amongst others to Barcelona, Lisboa, Hamburg and New York. And this autumn her show with acclaimed Norwegian actor Espen Hana sold out all of the 50 performances at Rogaland Theater, in Stavanger.

Next year will - beside new and exciting venues for these performances - bring more work on her eight´soloalbum, the first in English. Also, the second of the triology “Jacob´s Mass I- III”, for which she has written the music, is set for release at the label KKV. (kkv.no)
