Singer and composer Julian Cassia has lived in many countries throughout his life, including Lebanon, Paris, England, and now the United States. Having come to study film scoring and music synthesis at Berklee College of Music, he met Yuval Semo, an Israeli film scoring student with whom he immediately became close in friendship and musicality. Soon afterward, Kasofa was born. Together they played music in a variety of languages all over Boston and the surrounding areas.
Soon after moving to New York City, the duo met drummer Adam Sturtevant and bassist David Kross, both fantastic American musicians open to music from different parts of the world. The band was then complete.
Kasofa's music is a mixture of film score like music, folk, rock, pop, Arabic/ Israeli music, Latin music, French music, Brit Pop, Grunge, Metal, rap and so much more. Furthermore, the lyrics are sung in English, French, Arabic, Hebrew and Spanish, all languages spoken by the band members.
At this point Kasofa has performed in many venues through Lebanon, Paris, England, Colombia, Boston and New York. In their present location, New York City, the band has played in venues such as the Lucky Cat, the Marquee Lounge, The Rockwood Music Hall, The Pussy Cat lounge, Galapagos, Pete's Candy Store and more.
