"Bands, rappers ‘bring the noise’"

http://www.thetowerlight.com/2014/03/bands-rappers-bring-the-noise/ - Baltimore Student Media, Inc.

"HIp- Hop Grassroots."

While procrastinating in the computer lab in my school’s library, 20NVR artist, Kassim, and I chopped it over the plans for the next move in his career. After booking a flight to California for $34, he told me his plans to go out to LA and do a grassroots promotion for his brand. “I got a couple of shows lined up, but mainly I’m trying to link with other artist and do as many popup shows as possible”, the Riverdale native said.

It took me by surprise how far he was traveling on the drop of a hat to push his brand -- but then again, the beauty of music is the hustle behind it. Grassroots is the most basic (and possibly strongest) concept of promotion: cutting out the middleman and providing the music directly to the people. It has been a long time since I have heard an artist with such direction mixed with uncertainty.

Kassim is in the mist of recording a new album and EP set to be released soon. Through all these upcoming moves, he just launched his new website and will be coming out with his new single “Peter Sparker” on October 28th.

“It all part of branding my movement, my music...” he described to me. The website includes all his upcoming tour performance dates, links to his music, and soon a wide range of merchandise (lighters, hats, shirts, etc.) that match his brand so supporters can be a part of the movement.

I hope it all works out for Kassim. It’s very pleasing to watch a local artist bet on themselves and try to get big dreams off the ground. - Thank You for Not Snitching

"[PREMIERE] K.O – OverThink feat. Ja-Niece Michon (produced by Ryan Hemsworth)"

Maryland native K.O. [Kassim] has been readying his new track OverThink for everyone to hear, and it’s finally arrived. The track is accompanied with a feature from artist Ja-Niece Michon and production from Ryan Hemsworth. Ja-Niece takes care of the hook and singing through the song. On this tune, K.O. [Kassim] and Ja-Niece preach the art of being honest through the meaning of life. Express Music constructs the perfect engineer on sound, which can be heard clear along the track. You can hear topics such as life changing, old relationships, and prospering. Although the song doesn’t belong to any project, it’s a new breath of fresh air and we look forward to hearing more from K.O. [Kassim] in the very near future. - BluntIQ

"Campus Celebrity: Kassim Okusaga"

Do you have any new music coming out?

I’m working on a new album, I can’t really say the title right now. I’ve been writing this new album since last summer and I feel really great about it. You’re gonna hear a lot of 20nvr influences from the jokes we have to different sounds that we come up with, just having a great time.

Do you have any musical inspirations?

Basically almost anything I can get my ears on besides screamo. I just can’t get with someone screaming at me, but yeah I mean everything: Michael Jackson, Kanye West, Kendrick, Queen, The Beatles, it just keeps going on, it’s a very long list. - Her Campus

"STUDENTS USE MUSIC AND DANCE TO SHOW SUPPORT FOR SURVIVORS OF SEXUAL VIOLENCE"

The Hip-Hop Orchestra performed a song called “Smooth,” written by Marcus Moody, the group’s creator and a senior sociology major.

“It’s the first song I actually ever wrote for an orchestra,” Moody said. “The song is about overcoming the past but not really looking back at it, just kind of continuing to the future.”

Prior to performing, the group had the audience chant the lyrics to part of the chorus:

“I need you, but I need me more. My heart’s gone purple from banging on that broken door.”

“I think it has a lot to do with the subject at hand,” Moody said. “What we’re here for is about finding your strength and trying not to really dwell on the past, but acknowledge it and not let it break you down.” - UMD Writers Bloc

"Artist of the Week"

Riverdale's own KO [Kassim] steps into the limelight as the artist of the week. The 20 year-old 20NVR affiliate attends Towson University where I first met him, and had the pleasure of listening to his verses full of word play. "Music is my life", KO told me in a interview last Thursday. Listen to KO tell you his unusual story; how he only listened to Christian music until 2004, and his desire to not be classified by genres. - Thank You for Not Snitching

"K.O stars in Black Benjie"

Towson’s very own K.O, star of short film Black Benjie
See what your fellow Towson Tigers have been up to. Towson greeks, athletes, and other peers are featured.
I hope you enjoy as much as we did! - The Hippie Junkies
