"Some of the collected good words"

KATAMINE

“Dark, confessional, unplugged, world-weary – anything but folk” is how Katamine’s debut album, Lag (previously released in Israel and Europe, and currently in the US following considerable college radio and press coverage), was described in Anthem Magazine. Katamine’s disturbingly stripped, windswept odes to woe take us into the thicker parts of the woods where direct light is shrouded, allowing only for occasional glimmers to expose its bare, heart-twisting body of work.

Katamine is Ex Lion Tamer’s Assaf Tager’s side project. Tager’s morose voice creaks in that muffled, ashen solitude reminiscent of human nature at it’s most introspective and vulnerable. The absence of a verse-chorus-hook structure, replaced by a sort of a freeform, godless sermon, takes ‘folk’ to more avant-garde territories. Lag brings to mind the spiritually abstinent inwardness of Michael Gira’s Angels Of Light and the solo works of Neurosis’ Steve Von Till and Scott Kelly. Which has more to do with contemporary psych-folk than with traditional forms. The mould is cracked open by overbearing isolation, and from there it soars independently, sorrowful, morbid and haunting.

Conceptually speaking, then, Lag dwells in the deep of the forest. Unsurprisingly perhaps, the next album (produced by Wharton Tiers of Sonic Youth and Dinosaur Jr. fame), set to come out next spring, is entitled Forest Of Bobo. Yet, musically speaking, Lag brings to mind that Americana sense of sparseness and expanse, in its midst is placed the heartbroken loner straying off the beaten path into some god-forsaken desert town, as dry and barren as his tiresome soul. And, in this nowhere land he chooses to linger.

Tager had shared a stage with Elliot Smith, Devandra Banhart, Wharton Tiers and Bonfire Madigan. Following a successful tour in Japan this last winter, Katamine signed a record deal with the Japanese label Blunstone Inc. His new album is being released there and would be supported by live performances in the biggest Apple store in the world and in Shibuya O-nest (the best indie venue in Tokyo), following a tour in Italy and the UK.

"Dark, confessional, unplugged, world-weary – anything but folk" is how Katamine's debut album, Lag (Carrot Top) was described in Anthem Magazine.

The absence of a verse-chorus-hook structure, replaced by a sort of a freeform, godless sermon, takes 'folk' to more avant-garde territories. Katamine brings to mind the spiritually abstinent inwardness of Michael Gira's Angels Of Light and the solo works of Neurosis' Steve Von Till and Scott Kelly.

Previusely shared a stage with Elliott Smith(Domino), devendra banhart (XL), Wharton Tiers (Atavistic), Bonfire Madigan (Kill Rock
Stars) and many more, This year Katamine has already realesed and toured Japan, Italy and Spain.

Coming back to NYC, Katamine is about to work on a film soundtrack for the new and amazing S.A Crary film (the dirctor of "Kill your Idols", the Tribeca Film Festival Docomentry winner about the NYC No Wave Story).
