Her vocal styling have often been compared to those of Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt, Grace Slick, and Melissa Etheridge, yet she delivers the fresh outlook that only a new generation of bluesy rock singers can capture.

Biography

Having recently relocated to Austin, Kat’s music career has taken a new and exciting direction. A little history: Kat was raised on a steady diet of Texas blues, and Patsy Cline twang, along with solid rock sensibilities. Singing since the age of 10 she found herself drawn to Southern rock, where real life, powerful rhythms, and the fine art of storytelling all come together. Kat brings to her music today 15 years of voice training, a firm foundation and the strong sense of history and form.

Her 2 critically acclaimed CDs are receiving worldwide airplay, prompting Blues Revue Magazine to gush “Cairns’ remarkable voice is as tough as Angela Strehli and
as nuanced asBonnie Raitt.”

She began singing professionally in 1990 and received a phenomenal response from audiences with her rough and tumble voice and her engaging, energetic style. Her vocal styling have often been compared to those of Janis Joplin, Bonnie Raitt, Grace Slick, and Melissa Etheridge, yet she delivers the fresh outlook that only a new generation of bluesy rock singers can capture.

She has performed at over 800 venues throughout the West coast with such artists as Tommy Castro, Robben Ford, Coco Montoya, Delbert McClinton, John Mayall, Maria Muldaur,
Trisha Yearwood, and Etta James. Her powerful stage presence
along with her genuine warmth adds up to a great show –
anytime, anywhere!

Lyrics

No Substitute

Written By: Kat Cairns / Steve Dunne

Well I went out and bought a brand new automobile
Cause I needed to change the way I feel
That worked real good for awhile
But that shiny new car started showin’ it’s miles
It’s no substitute for love

So I got a big house, I live high up on the hill
I can’t afford it, but somehow I will
But it really doesn’t matter cause I’m here all alone
And nobody ever calls me on the phone
Oh, how I wish that you were here

‘Cuz there’s no substitute for love
They’ve yet to invent the drug
All the things I buy
The nights that I get high
Ain’t no substitue for love

All these new clothes and nowhere to go
All these new friends and nobody I know
I’ll be alright for awhile
But I can’t buy me a smile
Oh, how I wish that you were here

‘Cuz, there’s no substitute for love
They’ve yet to invent the drug
No matter how I try
Nothing gets me by
Ain’t no substitute for love

Too Late

Written By: Kat Cairns / Steve Dunne

I been down here for a long time
It’s the only place I know that no one can hear
Hear the voices that fill my pounding head
They been talking to me for years

I can’t tell you what they want me to do
Can’t tell anyone, nobody’d believe it was true
You’d look at me like the sinner I am
And tell me that even God wouldn’t understand
But tell me is it…

Too late, too late to save me now?
I’d fight for my soul if I only knew how
You tell me over and over
That I’ve got poison inside
And it’s too late, too late to save me now

Well, I fear, fear for the ones that love me
That they’ll find out, maybe worse they won’t
I try to find help
Maybe somebody out there understands
But you tell me that prayer is my only chance
Now tell me is it…

Too late, too late to save me now?
I’d fight for my soul if I only knew how
You tell me over and over
That I’ve got poison inside
And it’s too late

So you still love me? Well ain’t that sweet
I guess that makes my little life complete
But where were you when I was going’ down?
I called your name, you were nowhere around
Tell me is it…

Too late, too late to save me now?
I’d fight for my soul if I only knew how
You tell me over and over
That I’ve got poison inside
And it’s too late, too late to save me now
