Biography

I am very pleased to tell you that out of 6,000 entries,my song "You Are My Woman/You Are My Man" was chosen as a semi-finalist in the prestigious 2009 UK songwriting contest.

I am also excited to tell you that I just signed a licensing deal for my newest CD "Love Is All There Is" with W.O.A. Records for all of India.

I am also still enjoying playing the role of June Carter Cash in the musical tribute show to Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash.

I have been performing all my life and sang my first lead role(Cinderella) at the ripe old age of 12(I started off as a classical singer).I have also toured both in Canada and the U.S.A. and have sung most genres of music. I love variety and write in most genres as well. In the 80’s I won a province wide talent search in my home province of Nova Scotia, Canada and at that time I was doing country music so I released two country singles both of which charted on the Canadian Country Charts. In the 90’s I started seriously writing and released my debut CD “The Heart And The Mind”in the fall of 1995.This album which fit in the Country/Folk/Pop genre was well received and is still getting airplay around the world. The second single that was released off the CD (You’re My Addiction) garnered me a nomination from American Country Radio for Best Singer in Airplay International’s, King Eagle Music Awards held in Nashville in September 2003.

In September 2006 I released my new CD “Love Is All There Is ".This album ventures into the Jazzy/Pop genre. Also at this time, I started working with a publicist and we did a major marketing campaign all across Canada seeking CD reviews and airplay. I am thrilled to say that the reviews are favourable and we are also getting some very nice airplay. As a matter of fact this CD charted at number 7 on CHLY 101.7 in Nanaimo, BC’s jazz chart in February 2007 and was number 8 on the Folk/Roots/Blues chart on CILU 102.7 FM in Thunder Bay,ON in April 2007.

I am also very pleased to tell you that I have been inducted into the International Artist's Registry.I am one of 48 artists that were selected out of a thousand applicants.

In October 2007 I was nominated for four music awards in the Toronto Exclusive Magazine Awards for all of Canada.

Outside The Box

Written By: Kate Ashby-Craft

This song is about loving yourself….believing in yourself and never giving up on your dreams...

Intro

Verse One
I spoke to you the other day
You said I thought you would have moved on
I said why ‘cause my name ain’t in neon lights
well it ain’t about the fame; it’s about staying in the game
and doing what you know you have to do
Chorus
And you can’t quit your soul no you can’t quit your soul
‘cause there’s nothing there but darkness in that hole
Verse Two
Well I’m outside the box and even though I might get lost
I know that I’m never going back
‘cause there’s so much more to see
and there’s so much more to be
and you know that I’m dancing in the light
Chorus
And you can’t quit your soul no you can’t quit your soul
‘cause there’s nothing there but darkness in that hole

Outside the box, Outside the box, Outside the box
Verse Three
I’m drinking coffee for two while I’m smiling at you
And the hourglass is slowly coming down
You ask me where have I been
I say I’ve been to the moon
You say wow, oh wow
Chorus
And you can’t quit your soul no you can’t quit your soul
‘cause there’s nothing there but darkness in that hole
no you can’t quit your soul no you can’t quit your soul
‘cause there’s nothing there, no there’s nothing there, no there’s nothing there but darkness in that . …Outside the box, Outside the box

Beauty

Written By: Kate Ashby-Craft

My mother inspired this song for she always took the time to admire and appreciate her surroundings…….

Chorus
Beauty, I said beauty is all around you…everybody now…
Beauty, wow beauty is every where you look

Verse One
See it in a young girl’s smile; watch it in an old man’s grin
Hear it in a young boy’s laugh; it’s all around you

Verse Two
See it in a tree shaking hands with the wind, hear it a chick-a-dee’s dee dee dee
Watch it in a firefly dancing on a summer’s night; it’s all around you

Chorus
Beauty, I said beauty is all around you…everybody now…
Beauty, wow beauty is every where you look

Verse Three
Smell it in a lilac’s scent floating on a springtime air
See it in a red sky at night, a sailor’s delight; it’s all around you

Verse Four
See it in a swooping bird; hear it in gurgling newborn child
Feel it in a warm summer rain, it’s all around you

Beauty
Beauty, I said beauty is all around you….everybody now…
Beauty, wow beauty is every where you look

Verse Five
Feel it in a snowflake landing on your nose, see it in the glow from a haloed moon
Watch it in a helping hand; it’s all around you

Verse Six
Beauty flows within you, beauty flows without
Beauty flows within you, so let it flow out

All I Need Is You

Written By: Kate Ashby-Craft

After looking at the songs I had written for this CD and realizing that most of them dealt with serious issues I thought it was time to write a fun love song….so this is it…..

I don’t need a big fancy house or even a luxury boat
All I need is you

Verse Two
I don’t need a trip to the south; I’m not one of those girls
I don’t need designer clothes or trips to a spa
All I need is you

Chorus
You to hold me, you to love me, that’s all I need
You to want me, you to need me, that’s all I need

Intro

Verse Three
I don’t need filet mignon; I’m not one of those girls.
I don’t need a trip to the moon or even a silvery moon
All I need is you

Verse Four
I don’t need the finest perfume; I’m not one of those girls
I don’t need smooth satin sheets or spending time with a shrink
All I need is you

Chorus x 2
You to hold me, you to love me, that’s all I need
You to want me, you to need me, that’s all I need

We Will Find A Way

Written By: Kate Ashby-Craft

Verse one
When the telephone rang that night, it broke the silence in the room
And when I heard your trembling voice I knew something wasn’t right
Then you told me you were ill and there may not be much time

Verse two
Through the tears and the fears we’re searching for a miracle
Staring at the darkness but we won’t take no for an answer
And we won’t let this pain keep us down for we still have time

Chorus
We will find a way to make it through; we will find something to hang onto
We’ll climb the highest mountain till the light comes shinning through
For love is on our side and the universe is our guide

Verse three
Every day there’s something new; they’re coming close to a breakthrough
So we’ll hope and pray and do all that we can do
And we’ll hold each other tight as we continue the fight

Chorus
We will find a way to make it through; we will find something to hang onto
We’ll climb the highest mountain till the light comes shinning through
For love is on our side and the universe is our guide
For love is on our side and the universe is our guide

Is our guide the universe is our guide

Is our guide the universe is our guide

Verse One
Let the flame glow bright
Let the fire warm your heart
Come inside my arms
And let me be your lover tonight

We’ll make the clock stand still
We’ll make this moment last forever
Make me tremble at your touch
I want to be your lover tonight

Chorus
Outside the window it’s oh so white
The snows been falling through the night
I know we’ve been here all night long
But it only seems like a moment

Verse Three
The fires all but gone
But in my arms it rages on
Soon the sun will be shinning through
And you and I will bid adieu

Verse Four
Keep your love light burning bright
Till you’re in my arms again
I know it always seems so long
But the memory lingers on

The Sea

Written By: Kate Ashby-Craft

Verse One
I know the sounds of the surging sea the bite of its winter cold
The sting of wind blown spume on cheek the sunset splash of gold
I know the way the breaker curls just before it dies
And tangled bits of broken life where driftwood mutely lies

Chorus
Oh the sea it calls to me
It’s in my bones it’s in my blood
Oh the sea it beckons me
It’s forever in my soul

Verse Two
I know the smells of kelp and mist the shapes on the tidal sand
The limitless spread of horizon’s rim washed rocks on the edge of land
I know the flavour of salty spray red clouds and sun at dawn
White streaks on the backs of breaking waves left from a storm long gone

Chorus

Solo

Verse Three
I’ve watched the boulders in the swash and showers obscure the cape
The endless grey of a stormy sea as scudding clouds change shape
I know the sparkle of sun on waves the hiss on the sea of rain
Half blown cries of gannets and gulls ah-my spirit is there again

Chorus X 2

Un Canadien Errant

Written By: Antoine Gerin-Lajoie

Verse One

Un Canadien errant banni de ses foyers
Once a Canadian lad exiled from hearth and home
Parcourait en pleurant des pays etrangers
Walked in a foreign land tearful and so a lone

Verse Two

Un jour triste et pensif, assi au bord des flots
Down by a river wide, he spent so many days
Au courant fugitive il adressa ces mots
The water rushing by heard him proclaim this phrase

Interlude

Verse Three

“Si tu vois mon pays, mon pays malheureux
If you reach Canada my home and native land
Va dis a mes amis que je me souviens d’eux
Please speak to all my friends so they will understand”

Verse Four

“Non, mais en expirant, o mon cher Canada!
Canada my dear Land as I in exile lie.
Mon regard languissant vers toi se portera
My thoughts will be of you until the day I die”

Memories Of You

Written By: Kate Ashby-Craft

Verse One
One day you came to me so young and so sweet
And the things that you did endeared me to you
And oh how I’d laugh at all that you’d do
From sunrise to sunset you’d always surprise
Verse Two
You liked shinning things so my pots were your toys
In my garden you’d help I’d dig a hole so would you
Up a tree you would climb but then you couldn’t get down
On the roof you would lie and gaze at the stars
Chorus
Now all that I have are memories of you
Now all that I have are memories of you
Verse Three
Now you and the cat were not best of friends
But the dog loved you dearly and let you climb on her head
And teaching you to forage was the most fun of all
And on my shoulder you’d lie and dream raccoon dreams
Verse Four
Watching you grow was a wondrous thing
And the trust that you gave meant more then you’ll know
But then you were grown and I knew you must go
For the call of the wild was calling you home
Chorus
Bridge
Now sometimes at night I think that I hear you
And I run to the window but you’re not there
Chorus
Verse Five
As time passes by I wonder how you are
And I’m hoping you’re safe and living your life
And oh how I wish that I could see you again
But deep in my heart I know that you’re gone
Chorus X 2
