Pure. The Greeks got it spot on. The direct translation of her first name sits well in the pocket for musical poet Kate Gilbertson.
A fortress in painting pictures and transporting her audience on an emotional journey, Kate's songs draw people deep into her heart and being.

Biography

A writer at heart, it took her a while for her find her way through the first few chapters of her own paperback.

After slogging it out as an arts journalist in her early years, Kate soon realised this was merely a mask. Meeting and writing about people that she had forever longed to be.

Truth is the fire of the artist can only be kept at bay for so long. So she packed it in, and after a trek around the world decided to hone in on her dream, that her thoughts would live on long after she is gone through song. Much like the greats of her past Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, Cat Stevens, Jeff Buckley and others.

Her biggest lesson to date is undoubtedly to follow your heart, your gift, and Kate has now been sharing her intimate acoustic sounds with Perth's folk, indi audience for over four years and has never looked back. Featuring regularly at Perths original hotpots including Mojos, The Bird, Velvet Lounge, Xwray, Yayas and her debut supporting UK Star Passenger in April 2012 at the Fly By Night, Fremantle.
Her honest, warm, fresh folk sound likens her to the recent Laura Marling while she rapidly builds a very strong Perth and Australian following.

With her debut EP "Olive Street" set to be released in September 2013 Kate Gilbertson is set to take the Australian music by storm. Tune in for some beautiful songs that will take your breath away and hopefully live with you for a long time yet...

Home
Kate Gilbertson

The rain clouds are coming down to water you to the bone
The rain clouds are coming down to clean out your soul
And it’s time for you to make your way home
Your way home

The sky will lay upon its back and open up its heart
To guide your blistered toes right back to the start
And its time for me to make my way home
My way home

Ooooh
Ooooh

The tide will roll its head onto the sand where you lay
And drag your weary bones right back to the land where you should stay
And its time that we made our way home
Our way home

Oooooh
Oooooh
Oooooh
Oooooh

Dreams
Kate Gilbertson

I can’t wash the stains out of mind
My bones lay tired
I miss you so
Sometimes I wish I didn’t have to see you
Only in my dreams

I want to feel your breath
Again against my eyes it’s been just too long
Oh in the silent hours all that I fear
Is that I may never see you
Just only in my dreams

I left you long ago out in the cold
And I know that now is the time to make my way home

So get out of my mind
and out of my heart
and out of my dreams
And into my arms

I can’t wash the stains out of mind
My bones lay tired
Oh in the silent hours all that I fear
Is that I may never see you

So get out of my mind
and out of my heart
and out of my dreams
And into my arms
Into my arms

Swing

Swing
Kate Gilbertson

Wading in deeper into the trees
While the sun beats on our knees
Just lay me down
Just lay me down

The rusty branches take our hands
And lead us through these foreign lands
Just lay me down
Just lay me down

Swing swing swing my heart
Swing Swing Swing me upside down
And Swing swing swing me heart

The voices call us through the night
But will we make it before the light
Why can’t we stay
Why can’t we stay and just

Swing Swing Swing my heart
Swing swing swing me upside down
And Swing swing swing my heart

Swing swing swing my heart
And don’t you tear it apart
Swing swing swing my heart
