Bio

What brings a girl from New York to Nashville? For Kate Murphy, the answer is simple - her love of country music and the fact that she can just be herself when she writes and sings it.
With a background rich in the arts, Kate could have just as easily settled in New York City and could have had a successful career as an actor and singer there, but she traded in the bright lights and glamour of Broadway for Music City.

At a very young age it was obvious that Kate was a natural on stage and she loved being there. Her performances in community theater and school programs showed her talents to be far above those of her peers, and as she entered high school her curriculum was expanded to include voice and acting classes.
Following high school, Kate attended the Hartt School of Music in Connecticut where her time off was spent performing in Summer Stock productions at the Theater Barn in New Lebanon, NY and on the cruise ship, Spirit of Boston.

After graduation, and proudly possessing a Bachelors Degree in the Fine Arts (BFA) in Musical Theater, Kate discovered her talents as an entertainer were much in demand. As a singer she spent a year as the lead production vocalist on the Carnival Cruise Line ship, "MS Fascination." She was also a featured vocalist and dancer at Six Flags Great Adventure theme park in New Jersey.
In addition, she was the lead vocalist in the prominent Albany-based wedding band, "City Rhythm," and had a supporting role in the independent film "Earthen Vessels", where her talents as both an actor and singer were utilized.

Although her resume looked like that of people twice her age, and multiple opportunities continued to present themselves, Kate's love of country music brought her to Nashville in March, 2005.
Not only did Kate love country music, she found it allowed her to be herself and to sing what she felt from her heart and soul. Unlike most trained vocalists, and especially ones from New England, Kate's background is undetectable when she belts out a country song.

Since moving to Nashville, Kate has been working hard. She studies guitar, acting and voice and it comes as no surprise that she has a natural talent for songwriting as well.
The old saying "the cream rises to the top" is certainly true in Kate's case and like New York, she has had no problem finding work. As an actress, she is represented by the Graham Agency and has been featured in local commercial spots and was most recently seen on Fox Sport's Super Bowl Special featuring country singer, Trace Adkins.

One of Kate's proudest moments in Nashville was opening a show for one of her idols, country legend Loretta Lynn. She was also a Tennessee State finalist in the Colgate Country Showdown and performed in Knoxville at the Tennessee Valley Fair.
Kate keeps her singing skills honed by performing at several venues in Nashville including the world-famous Tootsies Orchid Lounge. She also fronts her own country band called "Murphy's Law" which performs at local venues in Nashville in additions to festivals all over the country.

Last year, Kate reached another milestone in her career as she completed her first all original recording project with producer Dick McVey. All six songs were written by Kate. Her music has been well received by the music community and whenever she performs them live at local writer's nights.

More recently, Kate participated in Decca Record's "Search for America's Best Musical Talent" and was selected as one of the top 25 out of more than 350 contestants.

Kate is currently pursuing her dream of landing a recording contract. With her good looks, personality and genuine natural talents as an entertainer, singer and songwriter, Kate Murphy has the total package. Although her background is a little different than that of most country singers, her ability to express her life's experiences and feelings via a song is both believable and undeniable.
