"Lost Found and Stolen review in Belgium (translated)"

After singing in a series of different groups and playing music in a variety of genres, ranging from rock, pop and electronic to folk, singer/songwriter Kate Strand decided try going solo.
For that purpose, she retreated to two small studios in Los Angeles (Hollywood) and in Orange Country, California, where she worked on ten of her own songs. The result of all this hard work can now be heard on her solo debut album ‘Lost Found and Stolen’. She plays the acoustic and electric guitar herself on this mainly acoustic album, which she produced together with studio engineer Henrik Linde.
Guest musicians Blane Barker and sitar player Morgan Delaney were fetched to the studio purely for the beautiful title track ‘Lost and found’. This approach resulted in a sober, intimate album, which is best listened to with a certain amount of concentration.
Kate Strand is a skilled songwriter, both as far as the music and the lyrics are concerned! The content of her storytelling is also worth a careful listen. The first song that gets our full attention is ‘What the Hell Blues’, on which the electric guitar takes the lead role. Afterwards, the style turns very acoustic in one of the best tracks on the CD, ‘Borrowed Words’. Other tracks we like to listen to are: ‘Closely’ with striking, gypsy-like percussion work and the very gentle and tenderly sung ‘Darling’. Most of all, ‘Lost Found and Stolen’ sounds as if Kate Strand has come to your living room to sing her songs just for you. Should she ever consider doing so, she would be more than welcome any time (at the Valsam home). - Rootstime.be

Bio

I, Kate Strand, grew up in Los Angeles, CA and currently reside in Hollywood. Growing up I was always surrounded by music like Tom Waits, Bruce Springsteen, Tom Petty, Rickie Lee Jones and so on. Starting around the age of 16, I began singing and traveling with multiple bands of all genres ranging from Rock, Country, Pop, Electronic and Folk all the while struggling to find my place in music. Right out of High School I quickly found an overwhelming need to create my own unique sound and begin telling the stories that were banging around in my head which is when I began to write my original music.

I soon after began renting a rehearsal space in Van Nuys which is where I ended up recording the majority of my demo, Lost Found and Stolen, on which is I play all instruments except for bass (Blane Barker) and subtle sitar (Morgan Delaney) on the title track "Lost and Found". All songs were written and produced by myself along with Henrik Linde (the Paper Dolls) who worked as the engineer and co-producer. With little gear and little money, we actually felt a sense of freedom creating the demo while experimenting with whatever was in the room including trash cans, broken bass drums, carpet, blown amps and cheap mics. To me, creating music this way can be the most inspiring. I hope to capture and strip down the small moments in life that are so strong you can smell them but are nearly impossible to explain in words. Most of all, I long for my music to make you feel something whether it is your preferred style of music or not.

I am currently playing live all around the West Coast, recording my new material and singing with other Los Angeles based bands!
