Bio

When Kate Lavoie met the men of The Verdict there was immediate chemistry. Within a year they had begun something brand new and were self-releasing their debut EP at Seattle's Showbox at the Market. The EP features local legend Kimo Muraki on Horns and Seattle Rock Orhestra's Rachel Beaver on Cello to create a sound unlike anything else coming out of Seattle today.
Inspired by older legends like Carol King and Aretha Franklin and contemporary artists like Fiona Apple, Feist, and Norah Jones, Lavoie has the heart of a folk singer coupled with an old-soulish vocal intensity. The Verdict anchors her soaring tones with a sound that is part Jazz, part pop, part good old fashioned Rock N' Roll. From gentle Cello and soft choir background vocals of the acoustic ballad 'Nobody's Baby' to the unexpected but perfectly placed guitar solo in 'Shade of Green' to the Chicago-esque infectious brass tones of 'Sick', Kate Lavoie & The Verdict have a wide range of appeal and are carving out a place all their own in the Seattle music scene.
