Bio

Kath Buckell, Australian-born singer/songwriter is one of the most refreshing voices in the folk music scene today.
Buckell is a storyteller, a balladeer, bringing her own voice through the narration of stories about the Australian land and its culture.

Buckell studied at the Victorian College of the Arts in Melbourne, initially as a drummer/percussionist under Graham Morgan, soon after she picked up the guitar and began to sing. She studied voice with jazz vocalist Nichaud Fitzgibbon and Emma Gilmartin in Australia and classical/contemporary singer Yael Tai in Israel.

While inspired by the Australian spaciousness and landscape of the bushland where she grew up, Buckell has traveled the world and made a career for herself in Israel, while exploring the colors of the tradition and incorporating them into her music.
With the encouragement of Aoife Clancy, daughter of Bobby Clancy from the acclaimed Clancy Brothers, Kath moved to the US to pursue a career in the folk scene.

Buckell has shared her music with vast audiences, performing with world renowned artists such as: Aoife Clancy, Eddie Dylan, SONIA of Disappear Fear, Shy Tochner among others.
She has performed in venues internationally such as: Echuca Blues and Roots Festival and St. Kilda Vege Out Festival in Australia, Jacobs Ladder Festival and The French Festival in Israel, The Bitter End in NY, Green Lifestyle Film Festival in LA.

Her debut album, Kath Buckell & the Folks, is a unique blend of preserving the rich tradition of Australian Folk Music with other world music and Irish music influences.
Nowadays she is working on a new project Australian Folk meets the sounds of Indiginous Australia that incorporates lyrics from famous Australian poets fusing with the sounds of indigenous instrumentation such as the Didgeridoo and original compositions.
