Bio

Katherine Winston is a young americana artist from the Berkshires, in Western Massachusetts, who is gaining increasing popularity in the region. Although she has an ear for pop melody, her music is often compared to iconic female singers, such as Loretta Lynn, Emmylou Harris, and Norah Jones. She is influenced by a broad range of artists, most notably, The Civil Wars, Johnny Cash, Damien Rice and even Amy Winehouse.
Locally, she has played at many notable venues, such as the Lion's Den in Stockbridge, MA, Infinity Hall in Norfolk, CT, the Iguana Club in New York, NY and Towne Crier, in Beacon, NY. She also plays at many clubs, cafes, bars and restaurants throughout Massachusetts and New York. She has opened for many of the biggest bands in her region, as well as played at festivals and showcases alongside many of the great talents in her area.
She writes a lot of the music she performs. However, she has been known to have great renditions of some great cover songs. She loves covering Johnny Cash, she is often requested to sing her versions of Folsom Prison, and God's Gonna Cut You Down. She also is often asked to sing Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen, Billie Jean by Michael Jackson, and many Civil Wars and Miranda Lambert tunes.
She plays a couple instruments, the guitar, the mandolin, and a little bit of piano. She is often accompanied by her father who plays the guitar, mandolin, piano, and many other instruments. She also is sometimes joined by her sister on some harmony.
Her family has always been very music oriented, she grew up singing in church quires, at nursing homes, and numerous benefits through school and her family. She always loved to perform, whether it was joking around for her family's entertainment, or at school plays and talent shows. She always knew she wanted to perform. She decided to pick up the guitar at age 11, while in trouble at christmas time for fighting with her brother, she was in her room and bored. She found a guitar, and some song books, then went to ask her dad how to play some chords. Soon, she could play the entire first Taylor Swift album, and played the guitar and sang at her school talent show in 6th grade. When she was 14, she and her dad went to an open mic night for her first time, and from there it couldn't stop. She started writing tons of music and playing out all the time, wherever she could, with great support from her family and friends. At 16, she decided to leave public school and get home-schooled to take her music more seriously. Ever since then, she has been working non-stop on her music career and has loved it every step of the way. She plans on spending her entire life making and sharing music in any way possible.
