For Gospel artist M. Kathy Jackson, her stirring vocal style is an opportunity to bring both her inspirational vision and her wide range of influences to those who desire spiritual fruit and soulful experiences. Kathy has been wowing gospel audiences for over 20 years.
In the eyes of the Kansas City, MO native, her music is a collaboration of ministry and inspiration. Although she began singing in the church, she has extended her reach without watering down the message. Kathy has performed background vocals in concert with John Tesh, former co-host of "Entertainment Tonight", international gospel artist Kirk Franklin, as well performed as a featured artist for the American Heart Association and the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra.
"I'm not one of those singers who is content in sharing only traditional styles of gospel music. I've been blessed to witness and participate in the exchange of the the influences that Gospel music has embraced-jazz, hip-hop, R&B. For me, the God I serve and love is universal and it is my opinion that the message within Gospel music that I sing can be heard by everyone," she says determinedly. "In terms of a universal experience, I counted it a blessing to sharing the gift of music while on tour in London, England and Paris, France with the Eastern Star Church Recording Choir."
One of the eldest of five siblings, her pioneering spirit and boundless optimism soon became her signature. Her solid church background and love of all kinds of music, which she says "was inspired by family - everything from Mattie Moss Clark to the Bee Gees" left her with a respect for traditional musical hues, as well as a desire for more contemporary interpretation. "So often we are catergorized and put in a box by music labels," she says.
It was while she served as a lead praise team singer with the Eastern Star Church that Kathy Jackson caught the eye of the prolific composer/producer Sanchez Harley. He produced her first single, "The Lord's Name Is To Be Praised," recorded on the album "Lord I Worship" by Eastern Star Church.
God has inspired and anointed Kathy Jackson to pen songs that touch upon life's daily situations.
