Kathy Fleischmann

BandFolkSinger/Songwriter

My music is a mix of singer/songwriter folk and blues with lyrics that are far from the usual MTV greeting card crap and melodies you'll remember the next day no matter how drunk you were the night before and vocals that can be both strong and/or sweet.

Lyrics

Bluer than Chicago

Written By: Kathy Fleischmann

You are bluer than Chicago,
a compliment which I don't use very often regarding the sky.

You are bluer than Chicago and I like what I'm thinking.
Your words are stronger than anything I've been drinking.

Bluer than blue and so few who come close to even your hue.

You are bluer than Chicago and my eyes are the great lakes - cold and frozen over, scarred with ice skates.

You are bluer than Chicago, bluer than Billie or Bess - a I-IV-V 12 bar sigh, more or less.

You are bluer than Chicago, bluer than Chicago...

Concrete Blankets

Written By: Kathy Fleischmann

Concrete Blankets

You remind me of the Brooklyn Bridge
Tall and strong and older than I
Dividing two places
In-between the water and the sky

And you don’t even mind the traffic
At all hours and holidays
And the wheels cutting into you
And the exhaust
Why do you stay?

In-between the water and the sky
So dependable always waiting
In-between the water and the sky
Not like I am
Constantly changing

You surround yourself with Concrete Blankets
They never answer back
The best kind of protection
Guarding against unnecessary attacks

Sometimes I look at you
I see the rust, I see your pain
Always under my construction
Closing all of your lanes

In-between the water and the sky
So dependable always waiting
In-between the water and the sky
Not like I am
Constantly changing

And sometimes when I need a different destination
I break into your walls
Break my concentration
I climb your catwalk like an Indian giver
And jump into someone else’s river

Iowa

Written By: Kathy Fleischmann

Iowa

He’s keeping Iowa from me
There are things, I’m sure are there
And I’ve been patient
I would like to know more

I let you in whenever you chose
All seasons in plain view
And the streets and the trees are all in
Descriptions I have told you

Now you owe Iowa
To me
You owe Iowa
To me

But the Noreaster in me
Obsesses midwesternly and
Impatiently
Always written with a heavy hand

Had foresight fallen twixt and tween
And real and the truth
I would have known just where I
Had belonged in youth

Now you owe Iowa
To me
You owe Iowa
To me

Those roads were nightmares
Collective cold sweats I have had
When the moon lassos the time zones
It can drive you mad

He’s keeping Iowa from me
There are things, I’m sure are there
And I’ve been patient
I would like to know more

Now you owe Iowa
To me
You owe Iowa
To me
He’s keeping Iowa from me
He’s keeping Iowa from me
