Biography

Kathy Fry has been singing ever since she can remember. Her earliest recollections are of singing along with Pete Seeger and Peter, Paul and Mary records playing on the family phonograph. At 16, she bought her first guitar at a garage sale. She taught herself to play, and at 18 began performing with a country band in local clubs. She worked with several cover bands until “rediscovering” folk music, hearing it played on WFMT in Chicago and Wisconsin public radio’s “Simply Folk”.

Kathy began writing songs in her early 20s, and was inspired to write the songs for her first independently produced CD, “Solitary Heart”, after traveling to Ontario to meet with a songwriter who was looking for someone to do demos of his songs. Since the release of the CD, she has been working in local clubs and is planning a regional tour.

Eye Of The Hurricane

Written By: Kathy Fry

EYE OF THE HURRICANE

The air is heavy and the wind is still
The sky’s a pearly shade of grey
The raindrops spattering my windowsill tell me
There’ll be a storm today

I’ve seen it coming for a long, long while
Out at the corners of the sky
It’s been building to a mighty roar
And I fear it will end in goodbye

And the thunder rolls and the lightning flashes
On the breeze I can smell the coming pain
And I watch it bear down from the calm I stand in
At the eye of the hurricane

Nothing I do can stop the storm approaching
Nothing I say can stop the rain
Helpless I stand before its building power
In the eye of the hurricane

Closer to the whirlwind
Heading toward me now
Holding on to this temporary peace

And the thunder rolls and the lightning flashes
On the breeze I can smell the coming pain
And I watch it bear down from the calm I stand in
At the eye of the hurricane

The air is heavy and the wind is still
The sky’s a pearly shade of grey
The raindrops spattering my windowsill tell me
There’ll be a storm today

I Wanna Fly Away

Written By: Kathy Fry

There’s a little bird that sits outside my window
Singing sweetly in the grey before the dawn
And she sings of flying high above the clouds
To a place that she remembers every time she sings her song, and she sings

I wanna fly away
Far away from all these memories, to where the world is sweet and green
I wanna fly away
Fly away from this cold city, fly away to find my dreams

In her song I hear the longing that she feels
For the grasses green and tender, for the warmth that she can’t find
And I know that I am like that little bird
Waiting always for the summer, searching for a peaceful mind, and we sing

I wanna fly away
Far away from all these memories, to where the world is sweet and green
I wanna fly away
Fly away from this cold city, fly away to find my dreams

I need to feel the breath of summer
See the swallows dip and soar
Hear the whisper of the night wind
Feel my soul awake once more

Now I sit and watch the storm clouds rolling in
Hear the raindrops on the windowpane, the wind sigh in the trees
And I wonder if I’ll ever see the sun
Feel its warmth upon my body when this winter’s finally done, and I sing

I wanna fly away
Far away from all these memories, to where the world is sweet and green
I wanna fly away
Fly away from this cold city, fly away to find my dreams

Sorrow In Your Eyes

Written By: Kathy Fry

Years of hurt have taken away the light from your face
The sadness I see is something not even time can erase
If I could turn your world around

I’d soothe all the aching in your soul
Give back the joy that you deserve
I’d take all the sorrow from your eyes

What angry words spoken to you have saddened you so?
What shattered hopes haunt you in sleep, refusing to go?
What kind of pain is in your heart?

What put the aching in your soul?
Who robbed you of joy that you deserve?
What put the sorrow in your eyes?

I’ll soothe all the aching in your soul
Give back the joy that you deserve
I’ll take all the sorrow from your eyes
