"Katie Cole's new single"

Singer-Songwriter Katie Cole took time out from putting the finishing touches on her forthcoming, yet-to-be-titled, studio album to give us an update on the project. The lead single will be a melodic pop-rock infused cut titled “I Can’t Wait” and was co-written with Sam Brooker. We got our first listen today — and we’re hooked. Katie put it best when she described the song by saying: “The sound is kind of Tom Petty, Fleetwood Mac, Colbie Caillat and Sheryl Crow in a musical blender.”

“I Can’t Wait” is slated for release in late October with the potential of having the official music video available in the next few weeks. You’ll want to stay tuned for more Katie Cole news.

In the meantime, we brought back one of our favorite covers of Crowded House’s “Fall At Your Feet” courtesy of Katie Cole and Ashley Arrison. - The Round Table online

"Glasswerk Meet Katie Cole"

Meet Katie Cole originally from Melbourne , Australia , now based in Los Angeles , USA . Does she dominate with ballads? No. Does she compose songs on the piano? Rarely. What she does do then? She rocks and enjoys a loud guitar, a strong melodic hook and an up tempo pop song. Growing up on a strict diet of rock music from her Mum, she was fed Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin in one ear and Maria Callas from her Vocally classically trained, Father. After a quick detour in music to Smashing Pumpkins, Aretha Franklin and Eurythmics, Katie describes her own style of music as having flavors of Sheryl Crow, KT Tunstall and Carolina Liar.

Q: An alien lands on earth. He doesn’t really know much about bands/artists and that - as he’s an alien. How would you describe you and your music to said alien?

Firstly I’d give the Alien a few cd’s including some David Bowie - Best of (so we’re covered), The Beatles - Revolver, Fleetwood Mac - Rumours, Sheryl Crow - The globe sessions and maybe some Aretha Franklin and then I’d try to describe my music. I’d probably say that my music has flavours of all above, but closer to Fleetwood mac and Sheryl. Once we’re on the same page, then I’d make "it" play tambourine to some Bowie and i’d film and post it to Youtube.

Q: It’s 2012, the year of the dragon. What’s been your highlight of the year so far? It doesn’t have to be anything to do with dragons, but dragons are rad.

Lot’s of highlights. This year during the recording of my new album Kris Kristofferson sang on one of my songs called "Penelope". ...I also discovered the tv show, Game of Thrones....now there are awesome mini dragons in that show!

Q: God calls you up, and he’s wanting to put on a show. Being God and all, he doesn’t really have time to choose bands, DJs or a venue. He’s put you in full control. Also - again, him being God and all - you can choose anyone alive or dead - he’s that good. Who’s playing and where?

Ok, lemme think about it. Got it!!! Venue - the show is on the moon so everyone can see it. Then we U-stream or God-stream it to every tv network. There are 3 stages at "moon-fest". On the Singer-Songwriter stage there is Nick Drake, Adele, Robbie Williams and Stevie Wonder on piano, on Band Stage 1 - we’ll have The Beatles from 1960’s, Oasis from the mid nineties and Tom Petty from the same era, Genesis and Eurythmics from 1985, Band Stage 2 - would have Smashing Pumpkins, U2, Sheryl Crow, Coldplay. There is also an Indie stage where Nikka Costa, Eric Church, Punch Brothers, Death Cab, KT Tunstall and Steroephonics will play. I think i’d put myself on Bandstage 2 also. And I’d make sure I get to sing back up vocals on at least one U2 song. It’ll be in my contract.

Q: What’s your favourite childhood memory?

I remember catching butterflies in a net. I remember spending a lot of time climbing trees and not falling out of them. The balance to all that I recall wearing roller skate while riding a bicycle and completely putting my back out when I inevitably crashed. haha.

Q: What were the first and last pieces of music that you bought?

I don’t remember the first I bought. I remember the first that was given to me. It was a mix tape called "Hits Huge 1984". It was great and had everything from Elton John to Howard Jones. The last I bought was Smashing Pumpkins "Oceania".

Q: What bands/artists are there around at the moment that people aren’t listening to enough? Any tips for future stardom?

I was just at a conference for Americana music and discovered Punch Brothers, Elizabeth Cook and John Fullbright (great upcoming artists). I love Gavin Degraw and think Brantley Gilbert is an amazing writer. Personally, don’t think Butterfly Boucher or Ingrid Michaelson get enough attention.

Q: What’s the rest of 2012 got in store for you?

New single "I Can’t Wait" coming out Oct 22nd in the UK. I’ll be touring, making music videos and planning world domination for next year. My new record "Lay It All Down" comes out early 2013! Also probably be doing a lot more songwriting too. I do tons of that in Los Angeles and Nashville!!

Q: That alien from Q1 is back - he’s just got his mitts on a computer, and he wants to find out more about you. Where’s the best place he can go to find out more and what should he check out first?

Go to [link] first and read the news feed. He should join twitter and follow me [link] and Facebook [link] . Then he will be up to speed on all things Katie Cole. thanks!! - Glasswerk UK

"Down the Road Show - Interview"

I have been a Huge fan of Katie Cole‘s for a whole 3 days. Ever since I watched the interview that is playing above, I discovered a hidden gem in the music world. Soon as I finished watching, I immediately went to download her EP “Lost Inside A Moment”.

Soon As I got the tacks on my mp3 player, I was hooked!! I have been listening to her tunes almost exclusively ever since.

Then I discovered more tracks from Katie on her bandcamp page, I proceeded to download another EP called “MELODIEM” and a single called “Gravity”. 2 days later she released yet another single “I Can’t Wait”.
Katie’s previous music is what I would called guitar driven Pop Rock. Her songs are mostly positive and uplifting. Her voice is fantastic ranging from almost speaking to hitting the high note with such a sweet tone. She had perfected creating a great hook for all her songs.

Her latest song “I Can’t Wait” is not quite as edgy, with the guitar, as her previous songs. Its still come through though with a great upbeat tempo with a great hook, lyrics and sound. And yes I Love this this song!!!

If you are not watching the video playing above, you should be. Many props to my friend KC Murdock from Down The Road Show for for the interview above and getting me interested in Katie Cole‘s music.

If you would like to watch the below video or listen to the playlist, I suggest pausing the above video 1st. BUT you should watch the whole interview - DTR show

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 22, 2012 /PRNewswire-iReach/ -- Acclaimed Australian singer-songwriter Katie Cole is set to release her new single "I Can't Wait" on October 22nd, 2012 through Beverly Martel Music . The track will be the leadoff single from her much-anticipated album, titled Lay It All Down, which is set for release in February 2013. The album features a guest appearance by songwriting and screen legend Kris Kristofferson .
(Photo: http://photos.prnewswire.com/prnh/20121022/CG95670)
Hailing from Melbourne, Australia, and now residing in Los Angeles, Cole relocated to the United States to begin developing her sound with acclaimed record producer Howard Willing (Counting Crows, Ok Go, Smashing Pumpkins, Sheryl Crow ). The result of this musical partnership was the "Lost Inside a Moment EP," which unexpectedly received two BBC Radio 2 playlist spots. Shortly after this release, Cole received multiple awards from organizations such as ASCAP and OurStage, and landed an illustrious Movado watches ad campaign that ran nationally in 2011.
Cole describes the new single and album direction as "a little bit more organic and rootsy" than her previous work. "It's somewhere between American Country and British Pop," she mentions. "I drew influences equally from icons like Tom Petty and Fleetwood Mac , along with newer artists like Brandi Carlile and KT Tunstall."
"I Can't Wait" is no stranger to the airwaves - it is already receiving several spot plays on BBC Radio 2 and has been added to the New to Q/Q Radio playlist. Writer Alan Harrison of No Depression magazine has praised the new single, stating, "Katie is on the cusp of becoming the 'next big thing' in Nu-Country."
Producer Howard Willing enlisted the talents of A-level musicians to perform on the record, including 2 members of John Mayer 's band Aaron Sterling ( Natasha Bedingfield ) and Sean Hurley ( Colbie Caillat ) along with Roger Manning Jr. (Jellyfish); Tim Pierce ( Faith Hill ); Lyle Workman (Beck); and Zac Rae ( Jason Mraz ).
Although still in the early stages of her career, Cole has toured in multiple cities throughout the US, as well as in London, UK. Over the years, she has shared the stage with many big names including Anna Nalick , Jackson Browne , and Glen Campbell. In addition, Cole was the only female vocalist to appear on Campbell's final 2011 studio release, "Ghost On The Canvas".

"Introducing Katie Cole"

With a name like Katie Cole you get the feeling you’ve heard it before. This may be due to other well known Katies (Tunstall, Melua, Perry; albeit with assorted spellings) or Coles (Cheryl, Paula, Natalie) doing the rounds in the music world. Alternatively, it may be that you’ve caught her music before – the twenty-something Aussie has been writing and recording music since 2010, with her new album, Lay It All Down, due out in the near future. Her previous and rather excellent EP, Lost Inside A Moment, received airplay on BBC Radio 2, where she was also interviewed by Aled Jones.

Originally from Melbourne, Australia, Katie has since relocated to Los Angeles. The impetus behind this move was to follow her producer, Howard Willing (OK Go, Sheryl Crow, Nerina Pallot, Smashing Pumpkins), who discovered Cole through her online demos and got in touch. The talented young artist writes or co-writes all her songs.

Clearly coming from a musical and generally artistic family has helped. Some of her earliest memories are of her mother playing Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones and Jimi Hendrix records – a real fan of proper rock music. Her father, by contrast, is a classically trained soprano who loved all things opera. Adding further colour to her background, in her teens she found out her mother suffered from multiple sclerosis and that her father was in fact gay – two events that would significantly affect most people’s lives.

With both parents being deeply enthralled with music, it’s unsurprising that Cole followed this route. At an early age, Katie began playing guitar, as well as gigging relentlessly, honing her craft. Even though personally unable to read or write music, it doesn’t seem to have hindered Cole any when it comes to composing wonderfully melodic songs – possessing perfect pitch undoubtedly helps though.

As well as carving out her own musical identity, she has written material for other established artists such as Gloria Gaynor. Additionally, she has toured and worked with country music legend, Glen Campbell, providing vocals for the single ‘It’s Your Amazing Grace’ from his last record, Ghost On The Canvas. Piquing interest in her forthcoming album, Lay It All Down, one of Cole’s tracks even features vocals by living legend, songwriting and screen icon, Kris Kristofferson.

Her own self-penned music is described as American Country meets British Pop, which is as good a description as any. Cole’s previous efforts bring to mind the work of artists such as Michelle Branch, Sheryl Crow and Jennifer Paige – soft-rock pop, with the occasional country twang. Her voice is clear and pleasing, and while it may not be a big diva-type voice, she weaves it round her own melodies with great proficiency, never letting it sound strained or weak. However you wish to pigeonhole the young star, one thing is for sure: when it comes to writing an uplifting song with a catchy hook, she’s got it down to a fine art.

New single ‘I Can’t Wait’ will be released 22 October 2012. Below you can check out some of her previous releases, as well as a teaser clip for ‘I Can’t Wait’ - So So Gay

"You Heard it First"

I don’t normally do this; but I'm going to tell you about a new singer I've just discovered who hasn't even released her debut album yet – Katie Cole.

Born in Melbourne, Australia the effervescent Katie now resides in Los Angeles where she writes and regularly plays. Here’s the kicker - in my humble opinion, Katie’s is on the cusp of becoming the ‘next big thing’ in Nu-Country.

The singer did what all good musicians do and that was to learn her trade in the pubs and clubs and; from what I understand, if you can survive the clubs of down-town Melbourne on a Saturday night you can survive an audience anywhere in the World and Katie successfully played those bars for years.

I was initially given a copy of her new album to review, but had it withdrawn at the last moment, as the release date in the UK is now early 2013; which beggar’s belief as Katie and her music are absolutely perfect for radio play NOW!

My musical taste is very broad but I've always had a soft spot for female Country singers who can belt out a tune; and Ms Cole can do that as well as just about anyone I've heard in the last ten years. When the album does get released she will (sadly) draw comparisons with Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift; but to me there are a lot more elements of Reba, Faith and Martina in the way she ‘sells’ a song, to my ears as it just contains the right amount ‘edge’ to it to make her songs sound like they come from the heart rather than the bank balance. .

Obviously ‘easy on the eye’ Katie will capture many peoples attention in 2013 but it will be her songs and delivery that will give her a long career because both are outstanding in a very mediocre market place.
The other thing that will draw attention to the album will be the track that features a certain Mr. Kris Kristofferson on vocals. I'm not allowed to even name that track but; trust me – it’s a keeper!

What you can hear in the near future will be the single I Can’t Wait which will be released in late October across Europe and has the potential to bring quality Country Music to the National airwaves; which is something I've secretly been praying for, for a long time now.

As a musical snob, it's rare for me to really like any of this new batch of young Country Singers, but Katie Cole really is something special. - No Depression

Meet Katie Cole originally from Melbourne, Australia, now based in Los Angeles, USA. If you were to talk about artists such as Jackson Browne, Glen Campbell and Kris Kristofferson, youd expect to see them listed as influences for an artist hoping to make their name as a songsmith with more hooks than Muhammed Ali and a musical attention to detail that is second to none. So how does an up and coming artist like Cole manage to appear as a guest vocalist on Campbells final studio album, Ghost on the Canvas, and enlist Kristofferson to appear her own upcoming full length,Lay It All Down? Because shes not just hoping to make a name for herself and songwriting prowess, shes already done it and has enlisted some very talented friends along the way!

Growing up on a strict diet of rock music from her Mom, she was fed Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix and Janis Joplin in one ear and Maria Callas from her vocally classically trained, Father. After a quick detour in music to Smashing Pumpkins, Aretha Franklin and Eurythmics, Katie describes her own style of music as having flavors of Tom Petty, Sheryl Crow, Fleetwood Mac and Brandi Carlile. After writing songs for established artists like Gloria Gaynor, Katie spent a good handful of years touring in Australia but was soon to be propelled forward. Acclaimed Record Producer Howard Willing (Smashing Pumpkins, Counting Crows, Sheryl Crow, Ok Go) found her music on the web and reached out to Katie to discuss working together. She jumped on a few planes back and forth before realising that stateside was where she wanted to be, whether in the industry buzz of LA or the cultural spur of Nashville. With 2 suitcases, a computer and her guitar, Katie upped and re-located to Cali for good.

What followed was a string of locals awards, TV placements for her music and an illustrious award from Movado watches coupled with a
national US national television ad campaign. Cole, then picked up further momentum with her last EP Lost Inside a Moment gaining some unexpected but welcomed support from the UK. Cole had 2 songs play-listed on BBC Radio 2, with other songs played and was also interviewed on Aled Joness Good Morning Sunday. Luck would have it, the1st single I Can't Wait from the upcoming new album also gained several plays on BBC Radio 2. Katie is taking it all in stride touring both the UK and America. Most recently Katie has performed at festivals including SXSW, Sundance, Namm, ASCAP expo and several show for Pinktober (breast cancer awareness month) at various Hard Rock Cafes throughout America.

Now the incredible new single, paired with a brilliant video is sure to create just as many sparks. (We Started a) Fire is reminiscent of KT Tunstall and Sheryl Crow. American Country meets British Pop.
