"Harder set to go far"

“Produced by Mike McCarthy, ‘far to go yet’ is the latest release from Melbourne songwriter Katie Harder. This rootsy/bluesy album contains ten self-penned tracks plus one co-written with her NSW-based producer. Earthy vocals and tasteful, understated instrumentation give each song colour and meaning. Thoughtful lyrics combine comfortably with deceptively simple tunes to produce a high quality listening experience. Dobro, mandolin, Wurlitzer, Hammond, violin, cello and oboe work easily alongside guitars, bass and drums. Standout cuts are ‘Drink it in’, ‘Come and go’ and ‘Muddy brown’. Vic Campbell ”

Bio

Katie Harder was born in Melbourne Australia and has been playing music her whole life. She grew up sitting in her Dad’s guitar case watching him play in bands and at home. She started playing piano and writing songs at the age of 8 and began her first band at the age of 14. She has continued writing songs and honing her craft since that young age.

Six months out of high school Katie was introduced to the world with her debut EP “What It’s Like” and was immediately whisked of on a three-week national tour. In 2005 Katie finished her debut full length album “Fragments of a Wandering Mind” and continued touring up the east coast and playing local gigs and interstate festivals such as Black Stump and Australian Gospel Music Festival.

Having had a break for a while to mother her 2 children she began playing again in June 2010 which saw her come runner up in a Storytellers and Songwriters competition which has been a springboard for her supporting bands like Blue King Brown, Ash Grunwald, Carus Thompson and most recently Jeff Lang.

In late 2010 she recorded and co-produced an EP which included her single called “Drink it In”. This song was shortlisted for the Australian song writing Awards in the Folk Genre in 2010. In 2011 she won a competition to perform with Clare Bowditch on Clare’s winter tour.

She finished recording her much-anticipated latest album “Far to Go Yet” in July 2011 that has been produced by fellow musician and friend Mike McCarthy and Mastered and played on by Jeff McCormack (bass player for Kasey Chambers).
This is what one music fan had to say about the Album:
“Katie's latest offering is a beautifully laid back collection of stories written in times of change and courage. In collaboration with Mike McCarthy she has captured a maturity beyond her years both in lyrical strength and musicality. The fusion of mellow country, blues and soul bring the songs to life with catchy tunes featuring Katie's easy vocal. An all round treat for the senses and great addition to any music library.”

Katie’s influences include many great Australian acts such as the Waifs, Paul Kelly and Missy Higgins.
Her live performance is full of gutsy guitar playing, interesting riffs and bass lines and captivating vocals.
Don’t miss Katie’s stimulating performance at a venue near you.
