Bio

Katie Wilson and the Two Time String Band are a modern bluegrass band based out of southern Connecticut. Winners of the 2010 Podunk Bluegrass Festival Band Competition, they perform regularly in the Northeast in an all-acoustic format. Their show features original compositions and choice covers in a strong, vocal-driven format.

Katie’s unique melodic vocal style has enabled her to be in full command of a wide range of emotions and styles (“[Wilson] has a lovely voice and performs with grace and beauty in a variety of musical genres”--Martin Blanco, executive producer of the “Flagpole Radio Café”; “warm, sweet, and melodic”--Amanda Cuda, Connecticut Post), and her performances are flavored by her love of American roots music.

Raised in New England, Katie left home at an early age to travel across the U.S. and Canada, and she lived in Alabama for a few years before returning to the Northeast to pursue her calling in music. This experience greatly influenced her songwriting and became a major inspiration in her decision to embrace the bluegrass tradition.

In 2010, Katie formed the Two Time String Band with the intention of performing material from her CD. As the band found its compass, they settled into a more bluegrass-oriented style that has been greeted with overwhelming audience approval. The TTSB features upright double bass, guitar, banjo, cello, and fiddle (“[They] are polished and look good, like they’re having fun. A very professional act”--Arnie Fleischer of Leadership Bluegrass and the Emelin Theater, NY).

In 2011, Katie Wilson and the Two Time String Band will be playing in theaters and festivals across the northeastern U.S., and they will again be featured at the Podunk Bluegrass Festival, recently voted IBMA’s “Event of the Year” (www.podunkbluegrass.net) and also in September at the IBMA Conference Showcase in Nashville, TN.
