Bio
Katie Young is an emerging folk-pop artist from Toronto, ON Canada. She began playing piano at age 4, and has continued to play and compete in the art music realm. Although she loves to perform Chopin and Bartok on a grand, Katie also loves to play Joni Mitchell, Sarah Harmer or Gordon Lightfoot on her acoustic, and has been writing her own folk-inspired music from the age of 13 onward. Soon, she began creating her own unique genre within the folk-pop sphere, and has continued to perform at venues in the Greater Toronto Area.
Katie moved to Kingston, ON in 2008, where she has been studying world music and piano performance for the past 4 years, and will be graduating April of 2012. While in Kingston, Katie has continued to write, record, and perform her music. Outside of songwriting, she is extremely interested in the study of West African music, and has lived in Ghana where she learned (and continues to study) Ewe drumming and Dagara gyil instrumentation.
