Bio

Born in 1985, Kat developed a passion for music in her hometown of Oceanside, California. By the age of 9, she began performing alongside her 10 siblings in her local church and in the neighborhood as a way to minister to other youths.

Although things seemed well on the outside looking in, things at home weren't as they appeared. Kat used music as a way to escape from the harsh realities of living with an abusive parent.

High school was a journey of self acceptance and awareness for St John. Being bi-racial in a predominately African American community, peers often tried to force her to choose which side of the ethnic spectrum she wanted to represent. "I feel that we are all children of The Most High, so why does it matter what nationality I am."

Prior to this time period, she had always preformed in the background; it wasn’t until she joined the school choir her sophomore year that St John commanded the attention of her Choir Director and found her voice as a lead vocalist.

Shortly after graduation Kat decided to move to Louisiana to attend Grambling University, where she obtained both her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in a short period of time. “I needed a change. I wanted to be out on my own. At the time I knew that I wanted to pursue my music as a career, but I also felt that it was important to get pursue higher education as well.”

College was a memorable experience for Kat. With the help of a fellow classmate, she recorded her first demo. Not knowing the ins and outs of the music business she followed the trail blazed by many rappers before her and started selling her music out of the truck of her car as a way to make ends meet. “Any time my friends and I would go out of town for breaks, I would bring my music. It didn’t matter where we were going. I saw it as an opportunity for me to market myself.” This work ethic coupled with her talent has lead St John to performing with people in the hip hop world anywhere from Shawnna with DTP to Young Jeezy.

Currently Kat is working on her debut album, “St John Chapter 1”. “The reason this project is so special to me is because it is a testimony of my life. Ultimately, I hope that when people hear the music and hear the things that I have been through, and see that I am still standing, it will encourage at least one person to keep pressing forward. I don’t consider myself a gospel singer, and when you hear my music it defiantly doesn’t sound anything like gospel in the traditional sense. But I think every artist is a gospel artist in a way, because we are able to testify to others through our craft.”
