Katy Rene

My brother and I play Americana/folk music with a youthful flair. A taste of jazz, blues, bluegrass and gospel emerge from our original songs. Our cover songs have a new feel, while remaining authentic. I am 22, I sing, play violin and rhythm guitar. My brother, 26, sings and plays lead guitar.

The most-loved element of our music is that we are brother and sister. It sets us apart from others, and I have found that people really enjoy watching siblings perform together. We compliment each other so well because I am a stronger vocalist and he is a better guitar player. I can sing Jazz standards, blues ballads, mountain songs and the occasional rock song, and he can play Jazzy, Django style guitar, deep Southern blues and fast fingerpicking bluegrass. The two of us play here in our hometown of Louisville KY, and in New Orleans. We play for the people, and we have been well received wherever we go. My influences are Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Norah Jones, Dolly Parton, Kitty Wells, Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, Peggy Lee, Janis Joplin...My brother has been influenced by Django Reinhardt, Louis Armstrong, Tom Waits, Michael Franti, and LOTS of old blues. We are young, but our taste in music reflects the classics. Our original songs have a "familiar" or nostalgic feel to them.

We have recordings from home but we have never had radio airplay.
