Bio

Captivated is usually the mindset of audiences who have experienced the dynamic talents of singer, songwriter, and educator Kawan DeBose. Having been compared to the likes of legendary artist Donny Hathaway and the soulful John Legend, Kawan has evolved into a Twenty one year old musical prodigy that has electrified the jazz and soul music scene.

Kawan's professional career began at the early age of eleven years old when he was appointed the musical director of Christian Fellowship Baptist Church. "Like many other singers, the church is where it all began for me. All it took was a mic and a platform, and I knew that I wanted to sing for the rest of my life." Having headlined countless universities, and notable clubs such as Arturo Sandoval's Jazz Club and Jazziz Bistro, Kawan has become an in demand performer who is guaranteed to knock you off your feet when in his element. He has shared the stage with such performers as the legendary Patti Labelle, Eric Benet, and Queen of comedy, Sommore. He has also had the opportunity to open for recording artists Pretty Ricky among others. Because of his immeasurable talent, he has been recognized by such organizations as Berklee College of Music (World Tour Scholarship) and the National Foundation for the Advancement of Arts Award.

Kawan's debut album, "Vintage Soul", not only promises to leave listeners in awe of its melodic and lyrical offering, but it will take one back to a simple yet intricate approach to music. When asked what he hopes fans will gain from this album, DeBose says, " I just hope people will be moved by this compilation. Music has become so beat oriented, and has gotten away from its emotional center. I want to bring that magic back to music; music that actually touched your heart and your soul." DeBose credits such singers as Donny Hathaway, the Clark Sisters, Patti Labelle, Chaka Khan, and Stevie Wonder into molding him into being artistically bold. "Besides singing their faces off, these performers epitomize what true artistry is and I only hope to mirror what they have contributed to the industry.", says DeBose.

Vintage Soul" can best be described as musically eclectic. "I'm not just soul, I am everything that has influenced me whether it be elements of gospel, jazz, blues, and even Broadway." This is evident with such tracks as the jazz inspired Tonight, a sensual song for the grown and sexy. The LP then moves into the raw and gospel tinged, "Fool in Love", which stands as an ode to DeBose's gospel roots showcasing his incomprehensible vocal riffs and endless range. Other knockouts on this LP include "How can you say you love me" and the dance groove , "O Love". Its definitely collection of songs that real music lovers cannot live without.

Whether performing for five or five thousand people, Kawan's silky tenor and remarkable stage presence will leave you breathless and in eager anticipation.
