Bio
Kawanna is a singer, songwriter and poetic lyricist on the rise on the hip hop and rob scene. Born and raised in Charlotte, NC and attending UNC-Chapel Hill for her undergraduate degree, Kawanna is a true Carolina representative. She started on the scene in Charlotte on the poetry scene and attended the local poetry venues and the National Poetry Slam when it was held in Charlotte. Absorbing poetry as her foundation, she then began to turn her poetry into songs that had a neosoul influence. She created a small fan base and then took a break from music. She became friends with some local producers that heard her music and challenged her to put her music and poetry together but this time on the form of rap. Kawanna began going to the Sounds and Sixteens cypher held in Charlotte where she began to see rapper, singers, producers all showcasing their talent. Hesitant at first, Kawanna began to try her hand at writing rhymes and rapping. Soon, the mayor of Charlotte held a Queen City Hip Hop contest in which she made the semi finals. Although she did not win, it gave her confidence to see what could be down the path of hip hop for her. Now she infuses her RnB and neosoul melodic sounds with her poetry and rap to create her own style. Kawanna has been performing and growing as an artist and performer and has so much to share creatively with the world.
