Bio
Moving from one to another all his life, Kazuo never felt like he belonged to one place, but instead, everywhere.
Born in the states but raised in Japan, the Gen-Z recording artist and producer got his start performing in open mics, cyphers, and showcases all around New York City.
Kazuo released a number of singles from 2018-2019 including the tracks “MOM SAID NO” and “ICHIBAN” which blew up in popularity as a result of Kazuo’s viral YouTube videos from the same time.
Kazuo would then go on to release his most cohesive and thoughtful project in 2020 titled “AKUMA.” The Half-Black, Half-Japanese rapper/singer took a more holistic approach with “AKUMA” mixing the hard-hitting and energetic flows of tracks like “YABAI96” and “JAP GOD” with more poetic and introspective tracks like “SADBOYRADIO.”
Kazuo’s down-to-earth demeanor, versatility as a creator, and genuine passion for personal expression has allowed him to cultivate himself as a genreless artist.
Moving upward from the rap-only version of Kazuo off “Akuma,” the new Kazuo brings elements of punk, alternative rock, and hip-hop to the forefront of his craft, even collaborating and touring with Japanese jazz-fusion band ALI.
Kazuo is constantly pushing the boundaries of his artistry, and he hopes to bridge the gap between Black and Japanese culture and entertainment.
