KB SOLOMON CHAMELEON OF SOUL
Imagine the warm, treacle sounds of Lou Rawls or Barry White stirred into a dark, mouthwatering gateau. Mix in an authentic helping of blues and soul, spiced with a zest of operatic pedigree - and the recipe comes alive.
The icing on the cake is the richly timbred voice of KB Solomon, and like his biblical namesake, he is blessed. He shape shifts where performers before him have tried and failed. Classically trained, he slips artfully and effortlessly into the R&B genre, staying true to its very core. Amazingly, KB Solomon makes the transition without eroding his 'operatic' voice. Not only that - when, chameleon-like, he adopts the mantle of another musical category, his signature 'sound' is hidden away until it's time to re-emerge.
This total metamorphosis into a more modern arena has only really gelled over the past year or so, since KB Solomon (the KB stands for Kevin Bell) ceased to sing opera professionally. He has wanted to sing R&B and other disciplines professionally for quite a while, but held out until he could independently manage his own destiny. So, his foray into a broader stream of music is underpinned by an extraordinary and prolific career.
From Verdi to Van Dross - The artist formerly known as Kevin Bell is one of the most prominent Basso Profundo singers, having performed with major opera companies worldwide for twenty years. He received training as a voice major at five world-class American universities, as well as at the Opera Musical Theatre Institute under the direction of the legendary Jerome Hines and Franco Corelli. He has had major roles in operas by the following composers: Prokoviev, Verdi, Rossini, Bizet, Mozart, Strauss, Puccini, Wagner, Saint Saen and Handel. To give you some measure, KB Solomon's voice is huge, and when he performs opera at concerts, he sings unhampered by a microphone.
KB Solomon composes music and writes lyrics. His remit is eclectic, to say the least. Multi award winning, he sings in English, Italian, German, French and Spanish (and is learning a track in Polish and Chinese). His comprehensive repertoire includes R&B, Pop, Jazz, Blues, Broadway, Classical and Gospel music. Not surprisingly, he has won the respect and admiration of his peers, of critics and audiences worldwide.
There is a yawning niche in the R&B genre once dominated by Barry White, Luther Van Dross and Lou Rawls. What he brings though is the gravitas of his classical heritage, a sensual edginess (women love him and he gets standing ovations from both sexes) and an innate freshness, all of which is embodied in his new CD entitled "Inexplicable".
