Bio

KEEYA

Born from an Algerian mother and a Cameroonian father, Keeya was raised in Paris. Since she was a child, Keeya grows up in mixed cultural and musical vibes: "My Mom was addicted to music. At home we would listen to soul, funk, reggae, r’nb, hip hop, rock, pop, and arabian music and she’s a fan of Prince, Michael Jackson, Sade, En Vogue, Salt N Peppa, Bob Marley, Steel Pulse but also Madonna, The Rolling Stones, The Doors... " Keeya quickly understands that what she felt when she was singing would become the goal of her life: "Every time I had the opportunity to grab the mic, I would jump on stage and do my thing... People named me the jukebox lol". Year after year, her tastes confirmed that black music was what she liked most. She starts to write poetry as a teenager, then songs, and tends to be as solid as possible. She is skilled, she dances too: "Any art is related to another one, arts are complimentary, cause singing, acting and dancing call your most primary and personal emotions" . For the most, her lyrics are in english, cause even though she’s French, american music is the one to touch her and keep her aware since always.
When she was a teenager, she found out what Gospel was, then used it to develop her notions of harmony and the way she listens to the others. She’s been part of gospel/soul choirs, performing on stages in Paris (Divan du Monde, Elysée Montmartre, Opus Café...). One day, she quit on her medical highschool to completely dedicate herself to music. To pay her bills, she also works as a model. Beside she had gigs every week, where she could improve her skills, live with musicians, in a soul/r’nb/jazz repertory.
When you ask her what her influences are today, she answers Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder , Betty Davis, Lauryn Hill, Amy Winehouse, Beyonce, Erykah Badu, Jill Scott, Kelis, Alicia Keys, Mary J Blige, Jamie Lidell, Fat Freddy’s Drop and producers like Jay Z,Neptunes, Timbaland, Kanye West, Gnarls Barkley, Mark Ronson...
Lately she's been writing, making melodies for her project, and had a few collaborations with French artists.
Right now, this young lady, strong by her experience, with a very explicit vibration, is staying open minded and diversified, and she wants to rock your world: "Musical sensitivity has no limits..."
