Bio
The Keith/Larson Duo, consisting of flutist Leanna Keith and guitarist Zachary Larson, aims to explore and expand the horizons of the flute and guitar world through the commission and performance of new works and unique original arrangements of orchestral repertoire. Both original members of the Ensemble 768 modern music ensemble, the Keith/Larson Duo formed in 2012 while studying modern music at the University of Nebraska Omaha. Recent performance highlights include a U.S. tour as well as being featured performers at the 2014 Omaha Under the Radar New Music Festival, 2015 Oscillations Concert Series in Chicago, Illinois, 2nd Canadian Flute Convention in Toronto, Ontario, 2016 Oh My Ears! Marathon Concert in Phoenix, Arizona, and on Classical KING FM’s Second Inversion Radio Program. The Duo recently gave a lecture-recital at the Denver University Research and Performance Summit entitled The Musician, Actor, and Story-teller as One: a Lecture-Recital on 21st Century Performance Art in Classical Chamber Music.
Their first recording, Dawn Till Dusk, features music from the 20th and 21st centuries for flute and guitar by Joaquín Rodrigo, Christopher Caliendo, and Toru Takemitsu, as well as album artwork from visual artist Justin “Pensive” Gilbreath. Self-released and produced through crowd-funding, Dawn Till Dusk is a project that exemplifies the Duo’s interdisciplinary aspirations.
Strongly committed to the expansion of the flute and guitar repertoire, the Keith/Larson Duo has forged strong relationships with composers of their generation. These relationships have resulted in several new works that push the boundaries of the traditional repertoire. Since 2014 the Duo has commissioned new works by Daniel Sabra, Sarah Perske, Phill Smith, and Kevin Baldwin, as well as other potential composers. These works provide the innovative material for the Duo’s New Music- New Horizons concert program that has been concertized in several major U.S. cities
