"Guitarist Keith Grim has an amazing talent. His music is intricate, but soothing to the soul at the same time. He should definitely move to the top of your list of,"Artists to Check Out!"

"Christmas Celebration! : Review"

Acoustic guitar is a sweet axe for a Christmas collection, projecting a fitting air of intimacy and warmth. "Christmas Celebration!" is both of those things, in spades.

“Christmas Celebration!” covers 15 traditional holiday classics, Keith Andrew Grim’s acoustic guitar arrangements creating a warm family atmosphere. You can picture a roaring fire in the background; it’s that kind of album, perfect as a holiday backdrop or for your personal seasonal devotions.

I enjoyed “Christmas Celebration!” most when the focus is on Grim’s nimble finger-picking. Opener “Joy to the World” is a lovely, gentle album highlight, very soothing. With the next track, “O Come, O Come” Grim begins to add the synthesizer, and the tone changes a bit. The album moves forward from this point, alternating back and forth between focus on first the guitar, then the synth. Some tracks feature both, including the interesting rendition of “What Child Is This,” opening with the synth, before moving into a lush arrangement of both. “O Come, All Ye Faithful” is synth only, and “Good Christian Men” features more programming, this time from guest artist John Massa. I’d have to say I found the album most enjoyable when the focus is simply on Grim’s agile guitar work.

A standout track has to be “O Holy Night,” a simple but powerful arrangement, moving in its straightforwardness, Grim’s tender approach adding an air of reverence. “Christmas Celebration!” comes across to me as a bit uneven, due to Grim’s fluctuating focus on instrumentation. I think his talent on the guitar deserves the full focus, and look forward eagerly to his next celebration. - © Kevan Breitinger - Suite 101 (Dec 23, 2006)

Our Review

Keith Andrew Grim is a religious man who plays the guitar and often uses his music as a means of worship and praise. On Christmas Celebration!, Grim puts his considerable talents to good use, playing striking acoustic guitar instrumentals mixed with synthesizer magic on 15 holiday favorites. On one track, (The First Noel), his young niece Abigail supplies gentle accompaniment on the piano.

The album's name is most appropriate; this offering is all about the celebration of Christmas. The tone is jubilant, yet respectful, and the overall feeling is upbeat and intensely celebratory. Some tracks, like Good Christian Men, Rejoice and Jingle Bells (Reprise), are downright funky!

My favorite tracks feature Grim's fine finger-picking on the acoustic guitar; although his synthesizer work is impressive, the acoustic guitar projects more warmth and intimacy. His opening Joy to the World bursts with delight, and his Angel Medley combo exudes the same folksy satisfaction. On O Holy Night, Grim works overtime, providing waves of guitar notes that sweetly push the song forward to its conclusion. Best of all is We Three Kings, a bluesy rock anthem that works on every level.

Keith Andrew Grim's Christmas Celebration! is a nicely-crafted homage to the holidays. Join the celebration!

Bio

Make music to the Lord on an instrument of 6 strings! An Acoustic Guitarist Exploring Musical Sounds!

My musical style is instrumental acoustic guitar that has elements of folk, country, classical, and Celtic sounds. I sometimes use a guitar synthesizer to create different styles and sounds.

I am an acoustic guitarist from York, PA. I play acoustic instrumental guitar consisting of hymns, originals, a few Contemporary Christian songs, a few pop covers, and Christmas Carols.

In my career I have played churches, Christian music festivals, community events, benefit concerts, weddings, background for dinners, and bookstores.

My travels have taken me to Pennsylvania, New York, Ohio, Maryland, Virginia, Delaware, Colorado, and Texas.

My earliest influences are from the 1970's. Jim Croce and John Denver were my earliest influences. Later influences include my all time favorite guitar player, Phil Keaggy, Keith Green, classical guitarists Gary Lowry and Ana Vidovic, and an up and coming rocker named Jonathan Salas.

The goal of my music is to bring peace to people in a hectic world. I base my whole music career on a passage found in the Bible, 1 Samuel 16:14 - 23.

In this passage Saul was being tormented by a distressing spirit. Whenever David played the harp it brought peace to Saul's soul and the spirit left Saul. I hope my music accomplishes the same goal!
