"KeithCharles Brings Hip-Hop back with "BeforeCommonEra""

KeithCharles is an emcee originally from Tampa, FL, but currently residing in Atlanta, GA. The artist’s debut project, BeforeCommonEra, finds the artist doing what most emcees seem to shy away from these days–rapping good. Highlights from the project presented by Thumbs Up are undoubtedly the lyrical title track, ‘High-YER’ and “See Her Exit wit a G,” featuring Ethereal and Will. - Art Nouveau Magazine

KeithCharles’ “BeforeCommonEra” album finally dropped today. I’ve been listening to the album for awhile now, and I’m glad that everyone can now enjoy and experience it. Download, listen, and support the great music that is coming out of ATL right now. - Greedmont Park Magazine

"BeforeCommonEra Review 2"

After hearing a leak from this project last week, I’ve been eagerly anticipating this full release from KeithCharles. From the Miles Davis inspired cover to the smooth, laid back production, BeforeCommonEra may just put this Atlanta emcee on people’s radar. - Kevin Nottingham

"BeforeCommonEra Review"

This is another dope mixtape from yet another dope young MC. Hailing from Atlanta KeithCharles Spacebar is among an abundance of eclectic young musicians helping revive the vibrant independent hip-hop scene that Atlanta has to offer. The 15-track mixtape offers a bevy of styles, as Spacebar thrives rhyming over lo-fi beats, from producers such as my homie Steve Jones from Introspective Minds. In case ya'll have not noticed the new school is here, and class is bout to begin. - Ruby Hornet

Birthed February 28th, 1991 in Tampa, Florida, Keith Charles, which is his given name, was raised in a single-parent home by his mother. Moving to Georgia, he created an uncontainable desire for what he considers real hip hop. Inspired by the elite ‘rhymers’ and original wordsmiths, such as Wu Tang, Outkast, A Tribe Called Quest, and Mos Def; KeithCharles started to craft.

Unable to find producers of his own, he started to produce tracks on his desktop. Then is when Keith began the life of a crate-digging, soul music headhunter. From lunch table freestyles to the one studio cut he released in high school, his name started to buzz and solidify as a musician. It wasn’t until a few years later, in college, when KeithCharles found himself in an actual suite sized studio alongside a few high school friends of his and a Grammy Award winning producer/engineer, Wonder Arillo. He recorded with them for a while until he was denied funding by management to embark upon his first project. After a fight with management he decided to part ways and began building on his own.

“Try’na get my dreams, but my dreams way up/ Jump Mario, man D-Pad Up”
—KeithCharles Spacebar from the chorus of “D-Pad Up”

Keith linked up with fellow emcee J-Coop right around the snow storm pandemonium, giving the emcees nothing but time to record. In a matter of days, KeithCharles managed to finish recording his debut project, BeforeCommonEra, which is due for release before March of 2011.

The project comes together with raw and ambient sounds of the nineties aided by the harsh realities of present day. It’s as though you got Wu Tang, Q-tip, and Warren G in the melting pot and recorded them all at once. KeithCharles professes a positive vibe over some jazz and classical influenced instrumentals produced by the likes of Introspective Minds and self produced jams. He makes it clear that he just wants to jam and bring back a balance of real to the Hip Hop scene of today. Backed by his imprint, Thumbs Up Atl, KeithCharles is prepared to wreck shit and leave a trail of potent smoke behind in the process.
